As a father of teenagers, I can say that your parents are doing the right thing by telling you to earn the money yourself. In the "real world" (out of high school and on your own) you should be able to provide for yourself, that is the #1 hallmark of an adult. If you want something, earn the money and go buy it. That's what I was taught by my father.

What I am curious about is your current ability level on the guitar. Can you give me an example of something you can play well? Since you don't have videos and such to show your ability, I'd gauge it on something you feel good about being able to play. For example, I can play rhythm guitar to most anything out of the 80's hair metal scene or the 70's funk scene. My lead playing is not as good, Killer on the Loose by Thin Lizzy is a good example of what I can play, lead-wise.

Okay, so what I take from this is that you are what I call a 'bedroom guitarist'. By that I mean you play for yourself at home, not in a band or for others. Is that accurate?

What I'm getting at here is that you mentioned have 7 guitars and this thread started with you culminating your search for the perfect bridge for your Polka Dot V... you also have a thread about building a replica of Randy's pedal board, then you mentioned how your parents make you pay for your own stuff like you think it's unfair because they are 'rich'. So you have lots of equipment and seem to be obsessing over minute details, yet you don't play complete songs and often just fiddle about with your own stuff.

When I wanted my first electric guitar, my dad was against it 100% because I rarely practiced my lessons on the acoustic he was renting for me. He told me that when I could play the national anthem for him he'd be okay with me getting a guitar because he would know I would be playing it. He didn't mean the Hendrix version, either. He was a trumpet player in a marching band, so he had more of a classic rendition in mind. I ended up buying my own guitar and, to this day, still cannot play the national anthem. I fiddle about and learn the songs I want to and just do it as a hobby and that's fine. I own just enough equipment to be able to maintain this hobby.

I feel that you need to decide if you are doing this as a hobby or as preparation for being in a band or to be a teacher. When you know your status as a player, you can present yourself as such and the community here will have a frame of reference when responding to you. As it is, you are coming across as a kid who is obsessed but not as knowledgeable as many other people here - most of whom are in their mid-twenties or older. Know your audience and let them know you so we can get past all the derogatory commentary in threads like this.

See, that's where so many members of this community lose me. I have (and still do) study Randy's music but I've never been obsessive about his equipment. For me, I'd like to be able to play as well as Randy and understand the theory behind his compositions, but it's not really important to me what pickups he had in his guitar or what string gauge he used. I've learned about that stuff over the years, but my main guitar is a single coil Strat, I don't use any effects and use whatever strings strike my fancy when I'm at the store (or on MusiciansFriend.com since I rarely go to music stores anymore).

Recently I've been memorizing intervals and how they are used to make up chords and scales. This program is excellent because it's taken a subject I new about but didn't understand and made it clear. It's opened up my playing quite a bit. To me, that's what all my years of studying Randy has taught me - to never stop looking for answers to questions that come up while I play.

Sorry for going off topic so far... y'all carry on with the insanity.

wait. what?! I take back my previous statement. your "bedroom guitarist" percentage just passed 85% :P
where and how do you get 43% if you like to do a talent show ONCE every year and you're not looking
to be in a band?! :o

I think Believer has some changeling parts to play in it. In the main riff the hammer on pull off run on the D string can be hard to get clean and loud especially the pull off from F to D#. The timing can be hard to grasp as well with the notes that hang at the beginning and end of some of the bars, not to mention the rests at the beginning of other bars. The solo to Believer is one of my favourites, the staggered pull offs in the 7th bar that leads into the ascending hammer on run in bar 9 is practically tasty.

Great rhythm playing in Rock you like a hurricane, and the taped slides in the solo.

If you have those songs sussed I reckon you are well on your way. Both songs have powerful rhythm sections and strong leads, actually quite challenging lead sections to both.

Oh shit me to on all of that, the only criteria I have when buying strings is the closest they have to 12 to 56. I have a Washburn with humbuckers and a Floyd I was using for metal but haven’t picked it up in, OH god I better make sure it still works.

I though IT was common knowledge he had the chrome bridge, chrome turners.. White knobs and pickup rings and switched out for black.

Jeez Stiltzkin, give him a break. He's a 16-year-old kid for crying out loud, how's he supposed to know all the stuff we've learned over the years?

he must only play in his room once a year and for 7% less time than his talent show performance goes for

i made a mistake about randys PDV
when he changed his bridge to the black 1 he did not use the silver whammy bar he used the 1 from the concord

back in like 2002 some chinese people were making a doucmantry about randy and they asked mrs rhoads if they could meauser randys PDV
they made 2
1 is what it looks like now
2 looks like when randy first got his PDV
they are called fernandes on the first pic is what randys PDV looks like now and the 2 one is what randys PDV looked like when he first got it
i was right about the first bridge but not about the second
sorry

if you look verry closely they gave the specs
http://www.guitarnerd.com.au/2009/07/fe ... r-guitars/
for gods sake look for the word specs in white under the gint word randy
