randy will never die wrote:I am going to be honest I can only play 3 songs I know it does not sound like much but I like to come up with my own riffs and solos... i like to write my own music but no lyrics just leads rhythms and a nice juicy solo LOL
Okay, so what I take from this is that you are what I call a 'bedroom guitarist'. By that I mean you play for yourself at home, not in a band or for others. Is that accurate?
What I'm getting at here is that you mentioned have 7 guitars and this thread started with you culminating your search for the perfect bridge for your Polka Dot V... you also have a thread about building a replica of Randy's pedal board, then you mentioned how your parents make you pay for your own stuff like you think it's unfair because they are 'rich'. So you have lots of equipment and seem to be obsessing over minute details, yet you don't
play complete songs and often just fiddle about with your own stuff.
When I wanted my first electric guitar, my dad was against it 100% because I rarely practiced my lessons on the acoustic he was renting for me. He told me that when I could play the national anthem for him he'd be okay with me getting a guitar because he would know I would be playing it. He didn't mean the Hendrix version, either. He was a trumpet player in a marching band, so he had more of a classic rendition in mind. I ended up buying my own guitar and, to this day, still cannot play the national anthem. I fiddle about and learn the songs I want to and just do it as a hobby and that's fine. I own just enough equipment to be able to maintain this hobby.
I feel that you need to decide if you are doing this as a hobby or as preparation for being in a band or to be a teacher. When you know your status as a player, you can present yourself as such and the community here will have a frame of reference when responding to you. As it is, you are coming across as a kid who is obsessed but not as knowledgeable as many other people here - most of whom are in their mid-twenties or older. Know your audience and let them know you so we can get past all the derogatory commentary in threads like this.
