I usually just read and do not post, but after watching that poorly made documentary I had to say something. This documentary had the potential to be one of the most interesting in the history of metal, had they did it properly. And No Max Norman, are you kidding me? Im sure he would have had great memories of those days with lots of interesting stories and hes left out probably becuz Sharon didnt want to pay for him, that might put a small dent in her excessive shopping habit on Rodeo Drive! And blacking out Brad Gillis was the last straw! That was utterly rediculous of Sharon to do!!! What the hell is wrong with Sharon Osbourne!!!!! Ive corresponded with Brad a few years ago, and hes one of the coolest people Ive ever talked with and he even sent me a big color photo of him and Ozzy from the Diary tour. He did want to spread the word that Ozzy had nothing to do with his sound for the tour, as some of you who are old enough to remember, Ozzy gave an interview back in 1982 where he stated that he sat with Brad as Brad adjusted different tones on his amp to get close as he could to Randy's tone, and Ozzy said that he was the one that told Brad, thats it, thats the tone I want you to use. Thats just not true, it never happened.
The most interesting thing to me with the documentary was listening to the master tapes, and I could have cared less like the rest of you of what Rob Halford and all the others had to say. And I might get in trouble here for saying this, but I wasnt all that impressed with the video footage they showed, it was of very poor quality and really Randy wasnt all that clear in the video when he did pop into a shot, the audio was horribel, but I guess from reading other post that the bonus footage has had a audio make over.
Well sorry about sounding like a downer. I did order the box set and Im actually looking forward to it and the vinyl thats coming with it, as I still love listening to records, to my ears there is more warmth to an album and they just sound better than CDs. But also interested in hearing the CDs as well. Well lets hope that one day Bob, Lee and Max will put out their own memories of those years with Randy, I bet it would be much more interesting and longer too.

Well said!!! This could have been incredible, but sadly, it wasn't meant to be. I'd give it a 3/10 at best.
You know what says it all in a nutshell? As soon as the documentary ends and the 1st thing you see is "Sharon Osbourne - executive producer". 'Nuff said.
Although any footage of Randy is nice, i'll be honest.....it's very unimpressive. At this point, i think we should be glad we have the After Hours show available (imagine if that didn't exist....). I'm SOOOOO glad i didn't plunk down 150 bucks for this. I will pick up the 2 remasters next week though, i want that live CD.
I'm actually looking forward most to Bob Daisley's forthcoming book.

im glad this doc was at least a tribute to randy. You couldnt glean much new info if at all.The new footage and especially the audio was poor but better than nothing.
However it could have been like a vh1 'classic albums'.
Steve Vai says randy did some stuff that was unique that nobody else has done(something like that).Ok elaborate pleeeeease. The new ozzy guys?Who the f are they? And zakk is irrelevant-he wasnt randys replacement and never saw him etc. and his fake biker act is retarded and so 10th grade.Age or beer is catching up to his playing.

I actually thought Zakk was the coolest one in the doc. He is and always has been one of Randy's biggest fans as well. I've met the guy numerous times and nothings an act. Its just the way he is.

As much as I love hearing from people like Don, Rudy, Tommy, even guys like Pete Mertons, the documentary had to feature "big name" artists just so your average viewer would have something to grab on to. Seeing Halford talk about Ozzy and the band is more "credential worthy" in the eyes of the viewer. That's always been the bummer about products that are made for the public, versus made for the fans.

zakk is a good player...but to edit randys playing with zakk's made no sense...i think zakk is the longest standing player ozzy had but still?i liked the doc as it was made for randy though...

Well i never got too excited from the beginning. I had a funny feeling that what we seen in the trailers would prity much be the content, and it was. Apart from the extra bits we seen of live footage. We have all analized this far too much and hoped for more. We all knew how long the programme would run for and why are we all upset because we have no Max Norman or Bob Daisley or Lee Kerslake. We knew who was being interviewed for this and Bob & Lee are just not playing ball with Ozzy and vice versa. The show was entertaining and i thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to seeing the full concert footage now. I remember Ozzy saying in an interview that all he will ever be remembered for is pissing on the Alamo and biting off a doves head. But they had to go and mention it yet again... I'm glad they didn't go too deep into the death of Randy i thought that was cool with the closing titles nice touch and a very fitting Tribute to RR. 8) 8)

The documentary was much more of an "Ozzy" product geared toward a VH-1 type audience (which was odd, since they packaged the goods only in a very expensive box set that only die-hards will buy). Looking at it that way, its not bad, just your ordinary-average run of the mill VH-1 styled quick story. It also seemed in a couple places that Ozzy was playing to the camera. But to 'blur' Brad out, purposely banish Daisley and Kerslake (who needed to be in there...they should've buried the hatchet for a few segments...most everybody else does it), is inexcusable and renders the story poor-to-average.

But......as others have stated.....if this was to be both a true and quality product (especially for a boxset, you talk to Daisley. You talk to Kerslake. You get Norman and sit him down in front of the camera for 30 minutes. No question, no rebuttal.
The Osbournes certainly have the money and the resources to have made that happen. They didn't.

I think this doc was a last minute idea and put together quickly mostly as a promo for the boxset not a doc per se.
It leaves open the possibility for a classic albums episode.

I actually enjoyed it, although I knew going into it that Bob and Lee probably wouldn't be mentioned, it's still a shame that no one even comments on the bass lines or drum parts at all, I mean they could have done that without saying any names. I'm sure all the parties involved were given strict gag orders on the Bob/Lee subject.

Hearing the isolated acoustic guitar part in Revelation was amazing though as that part is a bit buried in the mix, I never really realised what Randy was playing there and how cool it was.
