Like I said this is about RANDY RHOADS, it's not about Peter & it's not about YOU.
I agree on that, but like I was trying to say in my last post, Peter needs to convince the Studio that his film will make their money back, plus interest and maybe some extra cash/publicity for the studio.
To do this Peter needs to have 3 years to make and edit the film for Sundance, that's probably his only good chance of doing this for the studio. The Studio isn't making the film for us, but to make money. Sure the fans do have some say, because if it's made all wrong, the fans wont watch it and the movie will flop.
I'm not surprised this film took 3 years to make either. Especially if there was no script, storyboard, production plan, shot lists, shooting locations, interview lists and plan of what they were going to do everyday for the next 3 years.
That stuff takes months to get sorted, without that the Studio would never let them go ahead I'd imagine. Even if he did have that by March 2007, he still had all the interviews to sort out. You can't film them one by one, day by day. Sure if there hadn't been so many we might've seen a bit more by now.
As to the 'Randy's window' and etc shots that seem pointless...shots like these can help the technical and emotional aspect of the film. they can be used to enforce a film technique and ultimately try and make the film look technically good.
And as to the money, you also might not realise how expensive just film and editing is. My media studies teacher at school (former Director and Producer) said the film for a short film that was to last 12minutes and have 70 shots...ended up with only 55 shots because they ran out of film. I don't think they had more than 60 minutes of film and it cost something like $12,000NZD (about $6,000USD).
And then editing is bloody expensive, to transfer the film to digital costs a fortune, then using an editing room is about $500USD an HOUR! Not to mention the cost for a full-time editor and 2 part-time editors.
Without all this money spent on things like that, we'd see the film much later then we already are.
I'm not necessarily having a go at you romeorose, just want to say that a film takes a lot more money and time then people think and that we can't be selfish with this film. It's the studio's money, and now also partly Peter's...we can't dictate exactly how this film will be made and when it will come out, and Peter can't really either, unless he convinces the Studio.
It's a business world out their, and it's all about money. It goes beyond us, beyond Peter. To suits who don't care about the fans as long as the film is critically recieved ok and makes the money required. That's all they care about.
Now that Steven Spielberg has made a fortune for Studios, he has a lot more say in to what he does, he can actually make films for the fans because he has the money and support.
