How do I prevent this?

Talk about musical equipment, guitars, drums, bass, synths anything.

How do I prevent this?

Post by kamalayka »

Here is my Jackson with a gold Floyd Rose. The paint is chipping and it's getting rusty. How do I stop it from getting worse? :(

I would rubb the corroded parts with very fine emery cloth. Then apply a very thin coat of clear varnish. This will stop the air getting to the corroded part and making it spread. You could coat the entire trem block with the varnish. But it would need to be done very carefully with a small modellers brush. Preferably stripping all the small parts down and coating them up. But i would only concentrate on the corroded areas. How bad is it ? can you post up a close up pic.

Thanks for the advice.

I'm showing it to a potential buyer in a couple days. It works perfectly fine, but being a left-handed guitarist means that finding someone interested in buying any of my guitars is rather rare, especially if it's a heavy metal-looking one. (Not many lefty metal heads I guess. . .) I just want to give the guitar the best chance of being bought. I'm only asking $300 for it, so maybe that'll help.

Just point out that relic guitars are just as sought after as pristine ones... There's shop here in Olympia, WA that specializes in turning new instruments into relics!

Check them out here...

Or in the case of a "relic'd" axe - fake battle scars!

Gold tarnishes, you should see the bridge on my LP!

No reason that should knock the price down though. It's inevitable.
