H.I.M. reminds me of a lighter version of Type-O-Neagative.
They are both not only full of "love and heartache" but full of death and depression too. Plus, they both had really long band names and go by initials.

However, in a fight... I think TON would beat the ever living crap out of HIM!

U thank you all for your help. Since this is for my 15-year-old daughter, I will steer clear of the "dark" stuff and Slayer  But I'll definitely give Paramore and a few of the others a shot. I want her to think I'm still cool while understanding I'm Dad and have some boundaries.

Hey Paul, I may be a little late in responding, but if you need anymore help, Sarah is 14 and was a big help in telling me about the bands.
Paramore is THE best.
She likes Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, The Fray, My Chemical Romance.
There are a few the she likes that are not on the list, and I'm not too hip about them, such as
Soulja Boy,
Chingy,
Birdman,
Lil Wayne.
Go figure. I REALLY got to train Abby. So far, so good. She's a rock child.

I got her everything except the Marilyn Manson and the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus (I couldn't find the Jumpsuit stuff and I refuse to acknowledge Manson).

Now, her reaction? "Hey...thanks dad... this is cool..." *apply ZERO enthusiasm to this statement...

You bought her every single damn artist from her list and got a "that's cool"? Mehhh. I'm sorry about that. Is she normally so laid back and whatnot, and did her mother get her something cooler or perhaps most of the CDs before hand? My last thoughts are kinda brutal, and don't hate me here. Maybe her mother has turned her against you, thus making all presents from you kinda "eh, at least I won't have to push my mom into getting them for me" or perhaps she was stoned. :? In any fashion you did all you could, seem like a great father considering the circumstances, and she could've showed an incling more enthusiasm.

Personally, I would've sent her a guitar and a book to learn to play, but that's just my thinking.

i wouldnt take her reaction to heart, my reaction would probably not be much better, some people just dont show there emotions that much or are too self-conscious and feel stupid making big shows of emotion. A trait often found in teenagers... but its not cos they dont care :D

she may have felt embarassed, not expecting you to get her so much :?:

You have a few good points in this post. I for one generally get a big grin I try hiding from my face, and my talking changes slightly. People who know me can tell I'm excited, but people who don't may think I dont like the gift.

Yeah, mom turned her against me years ago. Her reaction is what I expected, actually. At least I know that I did something nice for her for Christmas. Maybe someday, down the road she'll appreciate that I never turned my back on her, regardless of her treatment of me.

To be honest Paul,

If my ex and i were still together, and we had a kid, then split, i can see the very same happening with me, but luckily, i never had a kid with her, but she has attempted to get everyone against me even my own family which luckily my family aint as dumb as she thinks.

look all i can say, is that, never give up, i mean she'll need ya one day, even if its to have a shoulder her mum cant provide.

Sorry if im talking rubbish here lol.

Paul, WE appreciate you. I know that doesn't make up for anything, but, the thought is there.

Don't get me wrong, I was disappointed, to be sure, but not upset or distressed by her reaction. It's what I expected. I'm a good person and I know it. Eventually my daughter will see it, too.

The interesting part of Christmas was the news that my ex has a new boyfriend and she is intending to move to Seattle next summer to be with him. That'd mean my kids would be down the road a ways rather than a couple of states away... who knows what changes in my relationships with them would be possible if that were to happen...

Trent Reznor is in Nine Inch Nails (and is basically NIN in general), but he helped Marilyn with Antichrist Superstar I believe in some manner. (Im not big on marilyn manson so I could be wrong, but Trent helped MM with something.)
