Hi Ted
I know you were not comparing Britain and the USA, my point is what we did was the right thing and because we had a new government with a huge majority and good consensus it only took teo years to establish.
During 2008 I was working for a woman who had been a community nurse just prior to our national heath service being established. She used to visit the sick and dress wounds as she made her rounds on her black bike. At the time we were being bombed by the Germans and everyone was pulling together to keep up moral, yet a job she had to do was deliver bills to these individuals for the treatment they recieved curing injuries that were no fault of their own!!!
She told me she hated it because these people were sent into spiraling debt, she said her proudest and happiest day was the day that she realised that she would never again have to walk into the bedroom of a sick woman who had lost her legs after her former house had fallen in on her and give her a debt she could never pay.
I feel that the new system you get in the USA will be far from perfect but over time it will improve and though some people will complain, what you will have will be fantastic for many many people.

Cologne she'll wear silver and americard, She'll drive a beetle car and beat you down at cool Canasta. And when the clothes are strewn don't be afraid of the room touch the fullness of her breast feel the love of her caress she will be your living end.

I have many teacher friends in CA, so I feel for you. I think Schwarzanegger's hands are tied more then you might think. Don't you think the strain on the system caused by illegal immigration in California especially, is the cause for so much of the states financial problems? I realize they do put into the system some, but the income couldn't possibly compare to the outgo. Plenty of those Cali prisoners should not even be in the country, yet they each cost quite a bit of tax payer money (and get free health care).NicDots wrote:As for government doing what the majority of people want it to...I wouldn't hold your breath. I remember my parents voting for Schwarzanegger, thinking he'd have the public schools interests at heart. And look what's happening now. Teachers are getting laid off, mandatory furlogh days, sports and music programs cutting the chop. Unbelievable. When state prisons get more funding than a high school, there is something extremely messed up going on.
Yeah, I realize that Schwarzanegger isn't totally at fault. He was voted in for certain reasons and was asked to not to vote for certain things by people that elected him. Still though. It's heartbreaking. I know my university is laying off quite a few professors and cutting the pay of tenured ones, which is so upsetting.
I don't know what to think of illegal immigration. It's way too late to stop the flow. And erecting a giant border wall is retarded and a waste of money. What I thought would be best for California would be to amend the law and free non violent druggies from jail. I imagine that would clear out the system rather quickly. So what if a guy is caught with E in his car! Don't jail him and waste my money, giving him free health insurance and food for the rest of his life. If he wants to fry his brains out, let him.

I tend to agree with almost all of that,. My opinion is, first fix the application process, and cut down some of the red tape to speed up the process (which is cause for suspicion with the health care issues as well). Then, properly secure the border, and enforce the laws. What to do with the people already here, is difficult. At some point they need to decide if they are citizens here or Mexico. It's a tough situation with no easy answers, but my point is, one affects the other.
As to the druggies and other loafers sucking at the government teet: give em a chance, give em some help, and if they can't get their act together then f' em.

Jeez the world and every country in it has many issues to handle. None of us as countries are perfect let alone individuals.tedeeoo wrote:As we can all see from this thread, the U.S. has many issues to take care of, time will tell.

My mom has major needs for her continued health and so she must have health insurance. Well the great compassion of the insurance company she goes through makes them completely strong arm her for the cost of her premium. It has steadily gone up way out of sync with inflation, so currently she is paying $1800.00 per month for her health care plan. Her predicament requires she have insurance because to pay for her health care straight out would be even more than her monthly premium.
It's fucking bullshit, it's strong arm robbery and her situation is quite common amongst Americans at the moment. When you allow an idea to be raped by for profit vultures so they can come in and feast you are going to get this type of issue every time.

Oh bring me some CHUNKY PUDDING, and bring it RIGHT NOW!!!
Hi Mike
It is when I read stories like yours that I wonder how it is that people in your country still fight to resist social health care? The tax that we pay to cover our needs is nowhere close to your mum’s monthly payments; they are so small that they are not even on the same scale!
For me with access to our system and knowing its benefits I can't make sense of arguments that oppose social health care?

Re: Health Insurance Bill
The argument that govt health care will be another tax burden is hollow.
Private Healthcare costs tons of money already and is a tax in that sense. If your employer pays for it -it is coming off your wages or you pay for your own coverage like me,it is already an existing tax.
It is essential to have it or you die.
The hmo biz is a racket.I have to argue over every bill because there are a;ways overcharges-amazing that there are no errors in my favor-coincidence?They wont cover basic tests that cost thousands of dollars.I have to pay for that.
Anyway...........This is a moral issue to me.How or why do you put a price on human life?
How does a country refuse to defend the health of its own?Isnt that its biggest obligation? We defend the borders of the people but not the health of the people within the borders?Whats the point of defending the borders if you wont defend the people?

1. What percentage of your paycheck goes to fund your healthcare system
2. Do you pay anything out of pocket for healthcare ( Including dental, vision and prescription drugs)
3. Do you see the doctor of your choice (including specialist)
4. What is your normal wait time to see a physician (emergency, walk-in and appointment)
I tend to believe in the U.S. that the proposed plan (which is not a socialized medicine plan) will most definately add to not only the tax burden but also our unemployment woes and I also tend to think it will not help our current economic situation. I hope I am wrong on all accounts as it appears our government is determined to push this plan through. No disrespect here Trigger, but a lot of people here (and I do mean a lot), still hold to the fact that we (U.S.) were not set up to be a socialist country, we were actually set up to have less government involvement in our lives. To a lot of people socialized medicine (and that's just using this topic as an example) represents getting away from that principle. Now, before everybody starts bashing away, I said to alot of people and not necessarily me, I have been in and around the healthcare system since I was 5 years old and I believe that we need to change alot of things also, and I firmly believe that we have a responsability to care for people who cannot afford to care of themselves. My question is now as it has always been, has our government truly looked at this issue in the right way, it seems that the current administration only sees one view and that anyone outside of that view is not looked upon favorably. And the alternate view (Republican) is just to oppose for the sake of opposition. Neither of those views represent what is best for the American people in my opinion.
