QR years. Not much strat playing on the BOO or DOAM and I think this photo was in the QR book or CD. Could be a Sobol.

Most definitely the Quiet Riot years. Randy never used a Stratocaster with Ozzy as he claimed it was too thin for a trio or something like that.

That, and it doesn't look like Ridge Farm from what I've seen of the place.

Exactly what I was going to say... I recall an interview somewhere that there were something like eleven different guitars on You Can't Kill Rock & Roll...

That picture is cool because you can see the settings on the pedal every clearly.

I'm curious as to why you never thought you'd see a picture of Randy with that pedal?

Isnt that the pedal that Randy talks about in almost every interview and guitar clinic, I always associated that pedal with Randy (the script no LED) Also, does it not appear that Randy is tapping there?

Yes that will be the exact same pedal that was inside his infamous board that everyone has seen....but without the housing just wired in...the "script model" called script because of the script style writing.

There is a reissue of this version now....however some people say there is some difference to the Script version and the Version released later in the 80s /90s this is the one i have....

Theres no way he used any single coil strats on BOO or DOAM unless they were overdubs right back in the mix.

This photo is definitely not Ridge Farm but the one Shaun posted DEFINITELY is.

Hi Paul well because when Randy was in the Blizzard of Ozz band i know he used pedals until his pedalboard was delivered to Clearwell Castle with the Mxr DIstortion + script wired in, but before that from apart from Bobs personal photos i couldnt imagine where we would see any personal photos like this apart from the Quiet Riot era.Its just something ive never seen or expected to see its a bit of a trainspotter type of thing something that a lot of people wouldnt even care about lol. Obviously his time in Quiet Riot produced loads of pics and ive not studied that era too much but this is the first time ive seen the actual stand alone pedal in the same shot as Randy.

Yes its cool the settings shot, because we can clearly see he had the output maxed and with Blizzard he always had it switched on ( but i think he meant live more than studio) i believe in the studio he had the output maxed but more gain running from his marshall than the Mxr apart from solos like Crowley and Crazy Train where you can really hear the Fuzz from the Mxr which means he probably maxed the Gain for some solos on the Mxr from his pedal board ( which i believe had the mxr dist + settings somewhere on the board)

I think for songs like Steal Away he had more gain from the pedal than say Crazy Train or I Dont Know, ive worked out that "Crazy Train", "I dont know" and somewhat "You looking at me Looking at you". All have the same tonal settings / gain output almost like he recorded those 3 around the same time/ day i could be wrong.

I think songs like Crowley were more Marshall than Mxr and not too much gain. And also Mother earth...It sounds like that early 80s marshall gain than the mxr maxed like say Steal Away the night which is definitely a mixture of both.

My apologies, Idol. I did mean that's why he never used it live (It was too thin, and I'm sure the extra feedback from the single coil pickups didn't help with all the distortion he had). Studio is a different thing and I would not be surprised at all if he used it in the studio where the feedback can be better controlled. It probably helped add some "shine" to the clean parts.

I do recall reading somewhere that he liked the sound of the Stratocaster guitars, he just seldom used them because they were too thin sounding for the band he was in. I may just be imagining things though lol

I have an MXR Dist. 3 pedal. It sounds better than the vintage stuff, in my opinion.

I have a reissue and I think it sounds like ass. I have never liked it and it never sounded like Randy. I mean with a JCM 800 it should sound something like Randy's tone. But it doesn't. Just muffled and garbbled. I have wanted to try a script model but they are expensive and I have found other pedals that I am happy with. So eh. Another thing is the 10 band graphic eq. That was a big part of his sound. You kind of need both. I have a 7 band that I ran with the MXR and I still hated it.
