I wonder about those numbers above the guitarneck, these are looking like fret positions, but the odd thing is that
from left to the right they become smaller. It looks to me that you have to read those diagrams as if you are sitting
in front of someone who holds the guitar. As opposed (with tablature) where you look at the diagrams (tablature) as
if you're looking to the neck while playing it yourself. I think it's a bit odd. I wonder what thought is behind that?

AH! It makes sense now! And the bottom string on the diagram is the high E string.

For the non guitar playing types can anyone explain what is happening in the tabs is this a progression or basic chord structure??.Please in your best simplistic style for all budding guitarists.Cheers Frank for sharing these pieces of rare Randy memorabilia with us.If you have anything else of interest could you post it up for us thanks again

I was wondering that too. First I thought they were scales then I realised that they're not liek any scales I've ever seen!

It's a G pentatonic scale... the large dark dots are the root notes (G). This diagram shows the shows the Root, Flat Third, Fourth and Flat Seventh of the scale. So all but the Fifth.

The Pentatonic Minor scale is made up of R, b3, 4, 5, b7 notes. In the key of G these notes are G,Bb,C,D,F... so the notes in the picture are G,Bb,C,F. Randy used this diagram to show his "Triangle" and "Z" shape patterns on the neck. He used these patterns to help his students visualize the scale over the entire neck rather than just the standard box shape.

Frank, I want to personally thank you for allowing us to view these lessons. I am a guitar teacher and always trying to find the best ways to teach my students. These are really helpful indeed...
