Re: Bobs book??
I also like to add that I believe Bob was most responsible for arranging the songs...

Re: Bobs book??
but Bob claimed that neither Ozzy nor Randy could write lyrics worth a sh*t as he had to rewrite them.
sometimes from scratch.
from what i here from bob ozz would come up with melodys and bob would write the song around that melody
bob said that when ozz sang a melody randy would write a rifft atound the melody too
Think you'll find that you're misquoting what Bob actually said. Yes, Bob wrote the lyrics for BOO and Diary, but the melodies that Ozzy sang came AFTER the music was written by Randy AND Bob, not forgetting Lee's contribution on Diary, which included a vocal melody that Ozzy used.
I disagree. The main melodies would be created by Ozzy before arrangement in the infancy of the song. If you listen to the rough version of Suicide solution (early demo) they way they wrote it was by jamming/putting together riffs while Ozzy mumbled or scatted over the riffs. I believe that's how it got written. They first would get a riff or two, with an Ozzy melody for the lyric with a couple phrases from Ozzy (Wine is fine but whiskey's quicker) then and only then could Bob arrange like putting together a puzzle. Bob would write additional lyrics or melodies. The pieces have to not only fit but be present. I'm not saying EVERY melody was there just the basic ones to give them an idea that this was a song in the making! Also, lee did write the lyric melody to You said it all. What was the lyric on Diary, Little dolls?

I know how all of the songs came about, first the music, then the vocal melody and, after that, the lyrics. Only 4 songs from BOO were demoed, Suicide Solution wasn't one of them. So if we're both talking about the same supposed 'demo' of Suicide Solution that was doing the rounds on YouTube a while ago, Lee wasn't on drums and that was most likely recorded by one of the many drummers during an audition, not when the band was working on the song. That recording isn't part of Bob's grail and he was the only one who taped Blizzard's writing sessions and rehearsals. Lee came up with more than one vocal melody on Diary. I know that Bob talks about all of the songs and how they came about in his book, so why not wait to hear what he says, and then disagree with him...

Re: Bobs book??
Lees Contributions Cannot be Forgotton, after hearing what Bob said & looking @ the writing credits...You can hear a Distinct & Unique touch to his Melodies...Like Bob has stated the Chorus (mamas gonna worry) to Flying High & Little Dolls the counter melodies near the Bridge & outro HAVE to be Lee's IMHO
Re: Bobs book??
"Supposed demo"? You haven't heard this? Its totally legit my friend. I'm, as far as I know, I'm the source (Boot - Chelmsford Complete) but since I got it of a collector, whom is to say there Isn't more copies out there. It is obviously real, I didn't buy that Over the mountain demo for a second. This is a Walkman type recorder, it has distortion but in the middle section it is more of a Quiet Riot song. Maybe Bob went over the tapes but Ozzy's melody is on there. Perhaps he extracted it out of the chaos. We all know Ozzy was a mess but he did manage to pull himself together for 2 great albums. I'd like to think he contributed at least a melody and a line or two.

Re: Bobs book??
I would love to hear more demos!! I know I'm that bad Randy fan that wants to hear demos, ideas, lessons ect. Whatever.
Re: Bobs book??
As I said, the band went into a studio to 'demo' 4 songs - Suicide Solution wasn't one of them. A tape of a writing session/rehearsal isn't the same as a demo. If you can post or PM me a link to the recording that you're referring to, we'll know for sure if we're talking about the same early version of SS and I may be able to be more specific. The one that I heard was from a writing session/rehearsal, and the drums were played by one of the many drummers who auditioned for the band. I'm definitely not referring to the tape on the link that's just been posted.hansolo wrote:"Supposed demo"? You haven't heard this? Its totally legit my friend. Of course Ozzy came up with very good vocal melodies on BOO & Diary but he didn't pluck them out of the air, Ozzy didn't play an instrument and he couldn't read music, all of his vocal melodies came after the music was worked on. Ozzy was given a line to sing or he sang the first thing that came into his head to establish his melody. I'm not lessening Ozzy's contribution in any way, but the fact remains that Lee came up with more than one vocal melody on Diary, and all four members of Blizzard created the magic in those 2 albums.

Re: Bobs book??
I guess I'll have my opinion and you will have yours. I am not giving Ozzy too much credit when it comes to those albums but IMHO Ozzy's ability stems from his conviction, to get his point across. To sum up. Believability. End rant.
Check this guy out. This dude is from my high school. You know him GEO. He has the Randy tone.

It's nice to see mike on fb. We used to talk about Randy all the time. I remember bringing him to my parents house and showing him the after hours video I had. We loved it!!
Re: Bobs book??
Ok so it's 2013. Will we get this book or what?
Re: Bobs book??
I guess we'll have to wait and see...

Re: Bobs book??
Nothing new book wise ( surprised ) but Bob did put a nice little written tribute to Randy on his web site.
Re: Bobs book??
He's still fine-tuning and editing. You all want a great, detailed book from his diaries rather than a generic, by-the-numbers bore like Ozzy put out, i would think.
As of a couple of days ago, Bob said he doesn't have a date, but said it will be out this year, hopefully "mid-year" instead of late year. He's dealing with all the publishing himself too - he doesn't have the army that others have. He really wants to put out book as best he can - and its like anything - you re-look over something and keep tuning a bit more, then a bit more. He's very focused on getting the right product and the best product out there. Won't be too much longer. I, myself, would have loved the book by now - but i'll wait for best book it can be rather than get a sub-par, rushed product instead.
