drives me crazy!

Re: drives me crazy!
No one is forcing anyone to watch it but if you want to find out "how he got there from here" watch the QR stuff. As another member said there are some "Ozzy parts" in there. Plus there isn't too much footage of Randy live. I guess I'm just obsessed but I ain't alone. The magic is there but it's up to each individual to dig for it if he or she really wants it.
Re: drives me crazy!
I just watched some youtube quality QR stuff (I have better sources than youtube) and Randy is rocking! I don't wanna twist your arm but damn does he rock in Picking up the pieces. Don't forget Rudy Sarzo is there too. If you think about it it is 1/2 of the USA BOO live band....

Ted was going to see The Boyz featuring George Lynch and Van Halen happened to be on the same bill. That's not luck? Okay.sytharnia wrote:If VH got signed on the live performance then there should have been no reason for QR not to... don't think luck had much to do with it...they just weren't what labels thought would sell, but when they went heavier bam people saw $$$
it amazes me that after 29 years of listening to randy with ozzy i'm considered a shallow fan by "real" fans:roll:
Sure, the labels were not willing to take a chance on the glam thing, I get that. I also get that the recordings weren't great. What I don't get is why fans of a guitar player so often aren't willing to look at just the guitar playing in those songs. I've gotten all kinds of insight into how Randy composed and played by listening to those songs.
As for post Randy Quiet Riot, they got a chance first and foremost because of the relationship to Randy. Ozzy was getting big and the labels knew Randy was the spark plug, so they took a look at his old band. To Kevin's credit, he saw the writing on the wall (finally) and changed the style of the band to a more metal approach. However, they needed the Slade cover to make it (ironic that a glam cover got them the gig).
29 years of listening to Randy? Sure your a fan, but what I was getting at is some fans like to go to a deeper level in their understanding of Randy. If you focus on Ozzy and discount Quiet Riot, you aren't digging all that deep. It's my opinion, Sytharnia and it doesn't really mean much, so don't get so worked up about it.
Re: drives me crazy!
no chance of me getting worked up about it, its just the internet bro doesn't mean that muchThe Rock wrote:Sytharnia and it doesn't really mean much, so don't get so worked up about it.

Its funny I never really put the glam cover thing together...but I have always thought it was funny QR got big because of a cover (much like VH to a degree) and they were pretty anti playing them with randy in the band
Re: drives me crazy!
Is it fair to say, Rock, that Randy's playing was different from his time in QR to his time with Ozzy? I'd say there are some constants, yes, but the difference is evident to me. He was reinventing the wheel with Ozzy, while in QR he was not standing out as much.
I personally like Blizzard and Diary much more than the QR stuff. Sorry. The music appeals to me more, and I believe it was as a whole much better. That being said, I am fond of both to a degree, but lean towards the Ozzy stuff heavily.
I don't think one needs to be a fan of Randy's QR stuff to be a fan of Randy. Sure, they are missing out on some of his material, but that's no matter if the music doesn't speak to them. I was a fan of Randy before I ever researched or heard his stuff with QR, so does that mean I wasn't a fan back then?
Not trying to bust balls here, just wondering your opinion.
The board has been more interesting since you've been here, so thank you!

No, you don't have to be a fan of his Quiet Riot stuff, I never said that. I have an issue with fans who dismiss his Quiet Riot playing. We have such a wonderful opportunity to study the kid's growth through these live recordings. The Whisky video from 10/25/79 was weeks prior to leaving for England, thus he it gives us the opportunity to see & hear his skill level when he met Bob Daisley and started "reinventing the wheel", yet so many 'fans' dismiss this stuff.
Re: drives me crazy!
i have always felt that randy was holding back what he was really capable of during qr and ozzy..for me randy was like a poker player..waiting for the right time to throw down his full house..but i agree with paul that with anything, biographies on a subject,or person, you cant read one book on lets say a persons life pro or neg..you have to research every type of book on the person to get your own understanding of what the subject was like...forgive my prose as im enjoying the festivities but listening to randy in 77 or 78 is part of his history as a learning human bieng.by the time he went to england he was still learning..thats what alot of fans dont get..he was always learning and never became stagnant in his playing..so his early work which is not liked by alot of people has to be taken into consideration to see his progress as a human wishing to never stop learning..thats my take on it i hope you guys bear with me.......
