Did you read why he's grinning so much ?? He's just ripped the ass out of his trousers and Ross Halfin was trying his best to get a photo of his bare ass.Thats why he's backing off in the photo.

i read the story but didn't connect it to the photo. thanx.
I noticed that the echo unit Randy's using on the HMH Portvale photos is a different model the knobs on the front are like an old Wireless Radio from the War. The famous photo of Randy during the recording of Blizzard he's got the echo unit raised off the floor on a chair thats a different model aswell.I wonder if he was going through an experiment trying to find a better unit through trying out different makes.Just my theory thats all !!what do you think ???

It was an Maestro Echoplex tape delay that can be seen on that Blizzard recording pic. Max Norman said he also used "some Korg stuff" when recording Blizzard, so it could be very well that he already used the Korg Stage Echo as well.
Never seen any live pics where he was using the Maestro Echoplex though.

I think he was trying things constantly to get a better sound.
I came across a better pic of the Korg SE-500 stage echo:
Comparing with the pedalboard picture earlier in this thread, it seems Randy only used the INPUT_A and the "direct/echo out".
*Don't overlook the importance of this device, these old tape echoes( like the Echoplex EP3 etc.) can do wonders with your sound
in front of a 4-holer.
