But yes they are expensive! LoL I wonder if these books go over well if there will be more material that follow?

Looks like Garni's book has been delayed. I got an email today informing me of this, and also that I will get a copy of the art print that was designed for the "Limited Edition" as well. I could care less about the delay, or the art print, but it was nice of them to do this anyways. As long as I get what I paid for, I'm not bothered by it.

Just wanted to say I paid $3 for a book by someone who knew Van Halen prior to their fame... may have been the worst book ever written about a band. It's titled Could This be Magic? Van Halen Before 1978 in case you want to avoid it :D

I am contemplating the velocity book at this point, the general consensus is that it's worth every penny of the large price. I doubt this is something that local libraries would carry especially at that price. However I'm hoping that Garni's book would be an exception. I normally do not purchase books new (even school texts) and I frequent libraries often so there's really no point to buy books for me even though I'm an advid reader. . . But my birthday is soon and I would like to treat myself to something special and that velocity book is starting to look good... kinda like beer goggles at the bar out with friends lol I just hope that I don't feel remorse the next day!

I thought it was already released October 29? That's odd- and somewhat challenges stiltzkin's observation that at least one bassist got his book out! LoL. And speaking of which, any word on Bob's book? It seems that publishing isn't always an easy and for sure thing. At least in Bob's defense, he has worked with a large number of other artists and I takes time to ensure accuracy and that everyone is cool with the content. . .at least that's what I suspect anyway. I wonder what Bob's pricetag will be?

It DOES look bad! Also, the subject matter is not exactly super-duper. Van Halen practicing in a garage? Who cares? PASS!

Man, you will NOT be disappointed by this book. Not even a slight hint of buyer's remorse here. It's that damn good. I would go so far as to say it's the best book that's been released about Randy.

Well, to be fair, the email did say it was "a formatting error on the print side", so it does seem all the text is done. That, and we got the first 13 chapters digitally. These things DO happen, and I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. That said, it does seem like anything Randy never does go as planned, huh? Oh well.

As far as Bob's price tag, I'll pay. We all wring our hands about the prices of these things, but in the end, a lot of us take the plunge. I'm not even gonna say I thought of NOT buying his book.

Yeah I've been pretty excited about Bob's book too- I'd definitely put that ahead of the Velocity release if i could only have 1 but thankfully that's not the case. Even though I was apprehensive about the price n the drama initially I think I've been won over by the positive reviews.

The Velocity book is great. So many things in there that are just amazing, like all the photos, and much of the text. I thought the text might suck, but I was very pleasantly surprised by how well it was done.

As well, it answered lingering questions many people had about different things, particularly things about the accident, and what happened that day, who Andrew Aycock was, what he looked like, etc. Sad, sad chapter, but it was done so well and so tastefully and with such dignity that it's almost worth the price alone. Informative, but not sensationalistic.

The Velocity book is no less than a celebration of Randy's extraordinary life and legend, and I truly feel that any Randy fan that buys it will not be disappointed.

*** And no, I don't work for Velocity books! :)

Can the velocity book only be purchased through them or is there another distributor that I can order it from? For those who have it- what is your favorite chapter? What surprised you the most about information / pics, etc?

Just wondering before I take the plunge!

I reallly like that photo above that's pretty much what sealed the deal for me but I get a serious case of sticker shock looking at the price, let alone the outrageous shipping & handling- $60 overseas, for 2
WHAT? I manage a shipping department for a small printing company and regularly send packages throughout the US and elsewhere, I cannot fathom where it costs $60 outside of the US. /end rant

I couldn't agree more! I've shipped guitars across the States (coast to coast) and it was under $20. So when I see people saying shipping will be a flat rate of $60 (or more), I just laugh and walk away. Shipping is a HUGE ripoff. Sellers make their money by charging "shipping & processing" fees. I love those TV commercials where they sell you something for $19.95 and then say you can get a 2nd one free - "just pay separate shipping and processing."

I'm a bit Biased, but I really like the rhoadsscholar book

www.rhoadsscholar.com

The e-book version has been lowered to $4.99 and 100 percent of the proceeds are going to the Red Cross for Hurricane Sandy Relief Efforts. The printed version is only $14.99 availalbe at amazon.

Seriously though, I am looking forward to getting/reading Kelli Garni's book. Although I knew Randy as a student and he was very supportive of all his students, the insite Kelli can provide takes me back in time as it parallel's when I was growing up at that time, a fan of local bands Quiet Riot and Van Halen.
GUITAR STUDENT AND FRIEND OF LEGENDARY GUITARIST William Randall Rhoads. ALL ABOARD.
