Paul i honestly think the guy was telling that story to pull potential buyers in. He never mentioned the gig he was at ?. Why because he would of been told by someone ....BS!! he never played that guitar. His arsenal of guitars was photographed backstage regular and it would of been mentioned before this guy. His one and only spam post and he only want 2.5K... I'm not being pulled in..

Is that the first Guitar Legends mag from 2005 with Randy being picked up by Ozzy on the front cover ?. Or the special collectors edition from 2008. I've read those mags inside and out and it never mentions the 12 string firebird. I'm the type of guy who would of been straight on here asking questions. I only found out about the firebird's history when Dave Tangye mentioned it in his interview and he said it was only used on the DOAM album. I had to let him know that pics from the blizzard recording in ridge farm show the guitar in the background. But it is shown on pics in the control room with his white jackson. So it must of been used on both albums. Like Delore's said it was close to his death and obviously not on tour with him. I'm sure he bought it in England just before he returned home. That was before the start of the Diary tour in the USA.
For peace of mind i had to read the Guitar Legends 2008 special collectors mag. The interview which happened on the 14th August 1981 says this
Q - Tell me about your guitars..?.
A - I've got a '64 cream Les Paul and a '57 black Les Paul with three pick ups. I have a (Charvel) flying V that Carl Sandoval made forme. He used to work at Charvel and then he went off on his own. The flying V has a DiMarzio distortion plus pick up in the treble position and a Di Marzio PAF in the bass slot. The only one of the three i didn't play on Blizzard of Ozz was the Charvel. Carl made it for me after i joined Ozzy.

Having not ever been in attendance at a gig Randy played, I can't honestly say what guitars he used. For years no pictures of the black Jackson in a live setting were available, yet now we have some...

I refuse to believe we know everything about what happened at every gig. Especially here at UR, any time someone comes in with a new story that has few verifiable facts (based on our current available data), this 'community' calls BS.

I choose to give him the benefit of the doubt. Who cares anyway? Is it going to change anything if he did or didn't play that guitar live?

As for the price, that's not unheard of for a Les Paul on eBay.

Paul i will give you the benefit of the doubt here. As we do not know everything about RR. But Randy was a perfectionist for his sound and as he aquired new guitars he gigged with them. Not all of them came to the stage as some had uses during recording or his classical playing. I'm sure he had another black LP on stage during the 1980 tour as it has been photographed. But we now know that guitar belonged to John Thomas from the support band Budgie. It was on stage as a spare, like you mentioned the black beauty '3 pups' guitar may have been a 2nd guitar. By the time Randy mentioned it in this interview it was August 1981. I'm saying if he picked this up in the UK. It could of been on the 1st August when he did the one off HMH Port vale show. Or the time he was in the UK before this which was ?.
Everyone who was at this mentioned gig, when / if Randy did use it on stage. How many people would of mentioned or noticed that guitar ?. We have one if it is true. Plus the guy had to have a connection to advertise his guitar on a RR forum without getting flamed. He's never been back since his one and only post. But we may have started something for a fan to come forward with a photo of him using it on stage Live...

I totally agree with you there. I just get tired of the negatives around here... sometimes it'd be cool to see only responses like, "Hmmm, interesting... I wonder if there are pictures of that anywhere," rather than immediately calling BS and shooting them down.

Just my current frame of mind.

Oh I said the firebird cause Ive seen the photos so I know that it was there, and the 2008 special collectors with him playing the concorde is what I was talking about. The part that GUITARIDOL had underlined is what I meant. That was in 1981 and said he had it for recording so Im still wondering if it is a different one or not.

I'm sure all his guitars that he recorded Blizzard and Diary with have been seen in photographs. But i was surprised to find out that he did use the 12 string for recording. Plus the other guitars which appeared in the control room photo on the Tribute album inner sleeve. Randy even mentions in that interview that he's looking for a strat. But not for live use. It's not fat enough... refering to the Live sound. He may of getting the strat in the photo for that purpose.

But like Paul says it's not going to solve anything. We could carry on speculating what guitars he did use for his Live and recording sounds.

Although he had his firebird there, I cant hear any 12 string on Blizzard unless its a double or tripled part that is quite . Anyone here notice it in any songs?

It may have been used for harmony or an effect on a double or triple ?. Or it may have been there in case an idea needed the 12 string ?.

I was sitting here looking at Les Pauls on ebay and had a thought on why he might not of ever used the Black Beauty on stage. RR stated he always had the frets on his guitars changed out to smaller ones. I don't know what size frets came on his BB, but I've played some Les Pauls with monster frets. He maybe never had the ones on that guitar changed. Just a thought.

The Black Beauty was known as "the Fretless Wonder" because it had very small frets.
