a "plain" humbucker...
Re: Randy's les paul
Me neither. Even the signature series are a bit of a stretch in my opinion, in most cases they have the same pickups and parts as the standard models. To be honest I've been thinking about buying a YJM Stratocaster but not because of Yngwie. The reasons are:Paul Wolfe wrote:I've never understood why people want exact replicas of anybody's guitar. Same make, model & color I understand, but same year, same knobs, same silly little brass thing on the pickup selector... I don't get that.twm wrote:I don't want to get an exact one as similar as possible to Randy's because of the noted mods he did to his
1. scalloped neck (only Blackmore model has it too as far as I know) + I like Fender necks & their playability
2. 70s style large headstock
3. made in USA - that makes me believe the quality is good or at least better than in cheaper Fenders, for example in Blackmore model.
But one thing I'm sure - playing an YJM Fender doesn't make me Yngwie. Been a fan of his for 25+ years but never felt the urge to learn his chops and shred away.

Blackmore necks are progressively scalloped meaning that they are deeper scallop at the high e than on the low E. And make sure you have played a scalloped neck and like them cause I played a yngwie and my standard strat with low action was much easier to play fast on as you need just as light of a touch of the note on my Mexi strat as you do on a scalloped neck. The YJM also has his signature Duncans and some different pots than a normal strat. Also American doesnt mean better for Fender unless you are happy with the american pickups and arent going to change them. The necks and bodies are made the exact same as americans and in Corona and some bodies/necks are shipped to mexico and some go to painting and finishing. The Mexicans have less laquer on them which I like way better as I find Americans really sticky and hard to move my hand along as well as the finish on the neck is so thick that my finger is uncomfortably close to the fretboard when fretting a note. If your going for a signature model then it doesn't matter where its from but if you are switching pickups anyways you might as well just switch the pots for 10 bucks each and save the 400 on an american and in my opinion get a guitar thats easier to play.
