Great advice from Victor Wooten:
...the rules DO NOT come first when learning your first language and so, SHOULD NOT come first when learning Music. U learn the rules of your first language after U can already speak it. A child learns about nouns, verbs, and even how to memorize the simple alphabet years AFTER they can already speak. We learn to speak quickly and thoroughly by speaking (jamming) with people better than us. The same rules should apply to Music. Learning the rules first does work, but is a much slower process.
