Nah, get back on. You're saying what needs to be said...I feel the same way, especially when I hear/read people complaining about he quality of footage. "Oh man, the camera guy focused on Rudy too much." What?!?!? After YEARS AND YEARS AND YEARS of praying for a live Dairy concert, we get two songs shot from the stage and that's your reaction?!?!? *sigh* And the fact that so much (bootlegs, videos, etc...) are FREE online and people still complain? I remember paying $49 for my first copy of After Hours - and it was probably 3rd generation at best. and i loved it! I was so thankful to have it! It reminds me of that old Tesla song - "It's not what it's not, but what it is." That's the way I feel.

Alrite, now who's turn is it to stand on the soapbox? :D

Amen, Joe!

Many of us paid ridiculous amounts pre-internet. I really like how things like this are so easily shared for free and I try to do my part when possible. I am always amazed at, and certainly thankful for, how much we DO have of Randy.

The Diary NM footage was so cool. Let's review....Randy-f'ing-Rhoads live on stage, full DOAM setup, complete OTM with pinstripe, complete Crowley w/PDV, in color, occasional close up of RR, in focus, w/decent audio...need I go on? Mind blowing stuff that I thought wasn't even on the planet.

The way I calibrate myself is simple....blues pioneer Robert Johnson...the recorded songs not withstanding....two known photos are all that exist of him. Two black and white pictures is it!

Now, compare that to what we have of Randy. Gives a different perspective on the Rudy-heavy NM Diary footage, incomplete Palladium footage, amateurish Stix interview, crappy audio of the Greensburg Seminar, distorted Chicago footage, wacking generational stuff us old dogs suffered through with After Hours, 100's of pictures, interviews, etc....oh, the agony.....

I thought so ;-)

Don't get me started on the how it shocks me that so many bitch about quality of audio boots, lack of video, certain photos, or even the seminar quality. Sheesh, girls, it's a f'ing miracle that we have what we do.

I speak from experience when I say that it took gargantuan balls to sneak a camera or recorder, not to mention a f'ing film or video camera, into an 80's concert.
I taped a couple shows in the '80s (Triumph, Saxon, Fastway, Maiden)... we were often given patdown searches as we entered the building. People bitch about searches at the airport? Damn, getting patted down to see Blue Oyster Cult was worse!

One thing you left off your list, Stress, three complete Quiet Riot shows on pro quality video. Between those shows and After Hours, I am content.

Paul,

My personal thanks to you for keeping the faith and working for the cause all these years. Some of those searches left me wondering if I should have turned my head and coughed. A mild deterent to the seriously committed, though.

I'm just having some fun with everyone here. I don't think I'm the voice of reason, just another asshole with an opinion. Lots of yammering gets on my nerves, though. It kinda rubs my left one the wrong way when we get something amazingly rare and then some people piss and moan about it. Very few things bring us joy these days, so it really makes my week when some new/rare RR stuff hits the net.

Frankly, I am convinced that our collective insatiable hunger for more, more, more will serve to unearth some real gems. For this, I'm grateful for the tenacity of the gang here and over at TK. A little squealing by some people is a small price to pay for the great things we have all shared.

Although I never met him, I like to think that, overall, Randy would approve of the way we handle ourselves in the pursuit of keeping his work alive. Maybe Frank can chime in on this, too.

Cheers to all,

Tim

Thanks for the kind words... as for being a voice of reason, your comments here fit the bill perfectly. Today's generation has a hard time understanding how thrilling it used to be to find a new picture once a year!

I really hope that my comments were not construed as ripping on Mr Stix or the quality of the audio or the interview itself- I shared my opinion on an observation from another member's post- I don't believe that either comment was bemoaning anything. I empathize with the author's plight that he didn't want to come off as awestruck, even though he was.

The one thing I don't understand about RR communities is people can be sensitive about certain things (myself included here;) ) I'm interested in what other fans have to say and what they may have to contribute to keep this fire burning and pass the torch on, I'm also interested in observations about other fans and their experiences in discovering RR and what he was able to accomplish in the short time we had him here on Earth- but not who is a bigger/better fan for longer or ish like this. No offense intended, but regardless of how long one has been a fan, it's still another person that is keeping Randy's fire going, too.

Getting back to the topic, obviously Mr Stix is a fan first, and he admitted that it was hard at times. I believe that some of the questions/comments that he made in this interview may have come out wrong in his haste to stay on point and professional. I would never piss and moan about any quality of material that we have left from Randy- it's more that we have to share with the younger generation to keep Randy's memory burning bright.

I think that the issue may lie more with the fact that there is more, but we'll never see it- when I see comments relating to Rudy being the focus during a solo or books/docos/etc teasing fans- what I feel that is the issue in what they're saying- not that so and so sucks total a** for whatever. But that could be my perspective from personal feelings, cos regardless of quality/cost/availability- Randy should be out there more than what he is. I relate and respect what some of us have gone through in the past to get stuff, but it's different now and I hope that he gets attention from younger generations- he was talented enough to deserve it.

I think the audio is cool and adds to RR limited voice recordings. It's just that some of JS's questions came off to me as strange. Maybe he didn't think BOO was different than Sabbath stuff or he didn't think of RR's guitar playing as that special or different.

I thought I had read every article written back in 81-82. There was one in Circus before his death, Guitar World was on stands when it happened, and Guitar Player came out post March 1982. I never remember any of them mentioning at the time of RR saying he wanted to do instrumental records or solo stuff. Does anyone have these handy to see if this info was not printed in original articles? It's been a long time and my memory is getting bad, but I didn't remember some of that stuff.

Not everything in an interview is used in an article (some early EVH Jas Obrect interviews contained much more than the published version), so maybe they just omitted the solo comments?
