Why is the Suicide solution solo on Tribute slightly sharp?
I've always wondered about this, but have never had the chance to ask anybody. I kind of find it distracting when I listen to the song. Was it intentional? (I find it hard to believe that Randy was tone deaf - I always just assumed that the tape was sped up or something.)

Yeah I know that, I notice a difference when the solo comes on in Randy's tone. It's actually really noticeable.Tito wrote:wasnt sped up its from 2 different shows

Max Norman sped it up on purpose. The solo was from the Montreal show yes, but they tuned the same for every show.

The pitch difference nowadays can be corrected very easily - I have an app called "The amazing slow downer" which allows musicians to change the tempo without changing the pitch - and also to change the pitch without changing the tempo - the sound quality remains good too!GUITARIDOL5682 wrote: Come on, who can answer the guy, hes genuine and wants to know why was it altered for the record... Could this have been done all those years back though? and even if it could, it could be that the producer didn't hear the difference in pitch anyway?

That's interesting that it was recorded at another show and spliced in, if only they had pro tools back then.

I always wondered if there was some kind of issue with the tape or one of the reel decks they were using, or if the spliced-in solo from Montreal was sped up on purpose to make Randy sound even faster.

Possibly the editing that went into it to make the solo sound like the tone Randy had at the Cleveland show? Also, the crowd dulling may have caused a problem. Isn't the crowd a bit louder at the Montreal show during the solo?

Re: Why is the Suicide solution solo on Tribute slightly sha
I love the KBFH SS/solo. I love the feedback in the song before the solo. It was my first live show of Ozzy minus the EP. When Tribute came out I was disappointed. I don't know what it was But I'd rather listen to Cleveland and/or Montreal and not that bastardized version. There is GTR and No bone movies as bonus. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad it came out. I remember taping the KBFH of the radio and cranking it on the bus to school, we got of the bus and got high around the corner, rewound the solo and walked in with the solo cranked on my boom box. Remember Trowlbridge George?

It's exactly a half note higher as the original Monreal '81 show where the solo comes from. Too much coincidence (imo) to say there was an issue with the tape. I think it was speeded up on purpose to make it sound even more flashier.SanDimasCharvel wrote:I always wondered if there was some kind of issue with the tape or one of the reel decks they were using, or if the spliced-in solo from Montreal was sped up on purpose to make Randy sound even faster.
(btw I wish they would have left in the original Cleveland solo)
