I would say that he probably would have started sweep picking eventually. It would have fit in pretty well with his style. The whole 8-finger tapping Jeff Watson kinda thing would probably look a bit silly to Randy. Then again, who knows.

The only reason I say this is because sweeping became one of the things associated with "virtuosity" in the 1980s. If Randy had lived, i'm sure his technique would have progressed even further. If he used them, it probably wouldn't have been anything like Malmsteen (where sweeps are constantly happening) but instead just used every now-and-again to color up a solo. I've often wondered what Randy would have thought about Yngwie.
