@Frank,

I've never had any lessons, nor can I claim I don't need them. But what am awesome teacher he would've been to have. I was born in 83, so I can't say I was a fan from the start. But in order to fully appreciate how great Rhoads was is to know how fluent he was as a musician. It would have been amazing to see a solo classical guitar project from Randy later in his life. I love heavy rock and metal, but I'm a fan of all types of music. I can see how RR's playing would/could have translated to other styles easily. Do you have any videos of your playing?

With all due respect to Randy, Bob Daisley wrote his own bass lines on Crazy Train and every other song on Blizzard and Diary, he's been a professional musician since he was sixteen and I doubt that he needed help from anyone. Randy was a wonderful guitarist but he didn't truly shine until he worked with seasoned professionals.
I'll tell ya what did you ever see the Quiet Riot show from the late 70s? I think its at the end of laughing gas Randys solo. Check that out and let me know what you hear. Bob did have a important part on the recordings. As far as randys playing he had nothing to do with that.
Yes, I've seen the QR bootleg, it would be interesting to know if the bootleg was filmed after Randy returned from the Blizzard writing sessions at Monmouth that began in November '79, I think I read somewhere that he played a gig or two with his old band mates during his first trip back to the US in December '79. I think you're referring to the 'stabs' that Randy played in the bootleg but I think the bass lines that were written for Crazy train have far more to them and as I said before, Bob Daisley has always written his own bass parts and has done so since the age of 16. Of course all good musicians share ideas in writing sessions, as a matter of fact it was Ozzy who suggested having bass at the start of Crazy Train. Everyone brought out the best of each other within the Blizzard of Ozz and that's what made it an amazing band.

The video I linked is from September 22, 1979 and there is a video from October 25th, 1979 - the last QR show prior to Randy leaving... there are also audio bootlegs of the QR reunion gig from May 1980. The video clips on YouTube are not from the reunion.

The solo in Laughing Gas (at 2:40) at the reunion gig is the solo from Revelation (Mother Earth) which is outstanding!

So reading the artical on the new Randy book its saying that Randy played the piano well and even would write on it. I don't know if anyone read that but I figured he would be descent at least on piano.
