Re: So Sad...
What difference will Bob's book make in the general scheme of things? Seriously? For Bob, Ozzy, Sharon..... you and me and the other RR fans?
What will it change? I would like to hear your thoughts on this.
I am not a fan of $haron, but I will say it again..... it was Don Arden that he dealt with in the beginning. Not Sharon Arden.
As time has passed everything is 'defaulted' as her doing. Not true. Talk about 'rewriting history'.
You, rokket, have bought into this, and seem to want to overlook MR. Arden's participation in the 'saga' of the Blizzard Of Ozz.
My reference for what I am stating here comes from Bob's website.
Most people my age - mid 40s, who once were as big of fans of RR as I am, stopped caring about this stuff YEARS AGO. Decades. Truth.
I think I have given Bob enough press for his tell-all. Maybe the only press.

why is there no drama with other dead musicians legacies? just wondering...
Re: So Sad...
I didn't know about the saga with Bob, Lee, Ozzy and Sharon decades ago. For years I have been a fan of Ozzy and Randy. For years I was told, by Ozzy via various media, and Sharon too to some degree, that basically Ozzy and Randy wrote pretty much every one of the songs I thought were awesome. I looked at Ozzy as a brilliant lyric writer and sang his praises, so to speak, to anyone who cared to listen, as much as I would Randy as a guitarist.shred1 wrote:What difference will Bob's book make in the general scheme of things? Don Arden, yeah he found himself in hot water, I haven't "overlooked" Mr.Arden, but there's not much to say about him now, as Bob say's,
"Our case went to High Court in London in 1986, with Lee's and my victory resulting in a payout from Don/Jet. We subsequently thought the royalty payments would continue and that the erroneous credits on 'Diary' would be corrected; neither happened".
From this point on any further wrong doing sits squarely with Sharon, not Don/Jet,...... Sharon took over..... There's no "re-writting" of history in that.
I'm probably a similar age to you, not that thats important but anyway, I'm 42. I've been in the music industry since I was 14.

The Jimi Hendrix estate stayed in the courts for almost a decade. Randy isn't the only one. I'm sure if we were deeper fans for others we would know more of the skeletons to their legacy also.Stiltzkin wrote:why is there no drama with other dead musicians legacies? just wondering...

Randy's influence and inspiration only grows in stature. That's very true: a lot of younger kids are getting into Randy from the Ozzy records.. True talent always stands the test of time, and Randy's legacy will never fade. If anything, he's more omnipresent than he's ever been. Cheers
Re: So Sad...
The Osbournes have always mentioned that they would do more if there is a "changing of the guard." Sadly, if Mrs. Rhoads passes, I'll bet more projects will come out. It seems that Kelle has no problem using Randy to promote his music. No matter how you slice it, that is the truth. Im sure he will deal with Osbournes differently than Delores. Dee really protected Randy's image. Will Kelle keep to these standards??? especially when there is a dollar to be made??
General merchandising using Randy's likeness (shirts, posters, key chains, guitar tab books, etc) was more prominent around the time of Tribute but quickly dropped off after that.
I see it as a double edged sword. In order to promote Randy more, those who can (Kelle, Osbournes, Daisley, etc) will have to strike deals in order to release content. Even when deals were made, the family was the last line of approval. Who knows what will happen when Kelle becomes the overseer of all things Randy.
I am hopeful that we will see more Randy stuff, but I wouldnt want him to be cashed in on for the sake of a dollar.

Re: So Sad...
Is Kelle older than Kathy? If my memory serves Randy is the baby.

Re: So Sad...
It was Don Arden who stalled the paperwork/contracts for Bob and Lee regarding BOO and DOAM - hence the original lawsuit and breakdown in relations with the O's.. As Bob says.... Sharon wasn't even there.

go outside and ask anyone who Randy Rhoads is and see what they answer.
Now do the same for Hendrix or VH and see who's name is rememberred

Re: So Sad...
To be fair, Jimi revolutionized rock guitar and made the guitar the focal point in rock music. Ask any of the legends (Clapton, Page, Beck, Blackmore, et al) and they'll all sing the praises of Hendrix.Stiltzkin wrote:Randy passed 3 decades ago. How much has been done since then? Randy wrote and played some good music and designed a cool guitar... he did not change the way the guitar is played or is viewed... for the naysayers, classical music and rock had been done prior to Randy, just not as well as Randy did it...
Oh, and then there's the HUGE backlog of unreleased material Hendrix left behind, that helped keep him in the public eye as 'new' material could be released for years.

VERY true statement! Randy is a legend to his fans and a footnote to everyone else, sad but true.Stiltzkin wrote:there's an easy way to test this...electricmombie wrote:Randy's influence and inspiration only grows in stature. i don't know. it has been done pretty well before.Paul Wolfe wrote:just not as well as Randy did it...
I mean Blackmore, Roth and Schenker are by no means bad players
and they did this in the early 70's.
Re: So Sad...
In my opinion, Dimebag now holds the position in terms of being the most prominent 'influence' on the current generation of players.
Rhoads goes back a generation or two. Those albums are 30 years old. Two lifetimes ago for someone who is 15.

I agree, but I usually get flamed if I don't keep Randy on his pedestal.
