from jack

On how the DVD will include some more recent observations Ozzy made about the death of guitarist Randy Rhoads in a March 1982 airplane accident:

Jack: "People were frustrated there was nothing of my dad, present day, talking about Randy. In the film we used an archival clip. We have a really emotional (interview) where my dad gets really into talking about Randy and his death and what it meant to him, how he feels this massive level of guilt and remorse over it. So we put that in the DVD."

I'm not sure what Jack meant by that because what I watched in the film last night was current. This was clearly not from the '80s. Maybe it was added later after the premiere in New York ... I don't know. Ozzy talks about losing Randy and how a part of him died along with Randy that day.

It would be nice to have a bigger section of Randy on the DVD. The uncut, clear footage of the guitar award was awesome. It would be awesome to see more rare and unseen photos as well.

After thinking about the doc some more, I think it was well done, but his music career is really abridged. No mentions of his musicians, no mention of Jake, no one but Tommy Lee, Rudy and the Sabbath guys get interviewed. There was some small clips of shows with Brad Gillies and some of Bark at the Moon. It really focused on Ozzy as an addict more than anything and how crazy he was back then. I think it will be in theaters on the 29th and that is it until the DVD.

I enjoyed it. Rudy's interview durting the Randy section was the highlight for me. That and seeing some of After Hours on a 20' screen.

There was more people interviewed that you forgot to mention: Paul McCartney, Rob Trijullio, come to mind real quick.

All in all nothing that the rest of us didn't already know... but well put together and very insightful for those that don't know everything already.

Wow, yeah I did forget Paul and Rob. I thought it was a little bizarre seeing Paul speak about Sabbath. I know Ozzy loves the Beatles and so do I. Too bad Bob, Lee, Jake and others weren't speaking. Such a shame it's the way it is. Those chances really won't be around forever.

At the end of the day... Jack is still Ozzy's son. Bob and Lee were nowhere near the thing. Saw Bob in a few pics and a few vids. Tommy Aldridge chooses to stay away also. Though like it said.. it seems that Rudy has been around a bit of late.

Hmm..

From what I can remember, all of Sabbath was in the movie, along with Paul McCartney, John Frusciante of RHCP, Henry Rollins, Tommy Lee, Rudy Sarzo...

Someone said it best: there's not much by way of surprises for the hard-core fan, but it should help to steer the public's perception of Ozzy back around for the better.

I actually surreptitiously recorded the movie on digital audio so I could hear it when I got home. The movie went by quick, and I wanted to absorb it better.

A few minor quibbles about chronology in the documentary. Just little details that they should have corrected: Motley Crue and Ozzy toured together in 1984, not 1985 as is subtitled in 'God Bless Ozzy'.

It is a bit odd to mention the dove incident after the accident in Florida. But, what the hell: it is a movie after all. I would have taken the time to correct that sort of thing, but what I do I know?

All in all, a good film.

at first i thought the same thing.. due to the timeline. But at the end of the day.. I think they didn't wanna "ugly up" the Randy Rhoads section with that.

I respect that.

Yeah. I see what you mean. Inserting the dove incident after Randy kinda offers the film some levity.

I forgot that Robert Trujillo is in the movie, too.

I wonder if the reason the After Hours footage looked shitty is the same reason why they used the 2002 version of Crazy Train at the end of the movie? Something to do with the new Blizzard/Diary set?

I noticed that as well. Maybe it was just how After Hours was transfered for the big screen ... I don't know. The guitar award footage was crystal clear. Clearest I've ever seen before with extra footage and sound. Maybe it will look better on the DVD this November. I hope there's even more rare stuff released. Hopefully it won't be expensive.

You can tell from watching the film that most-recent live footage of Ozzy was from the 'Black Rain' tour, when Zakk Wylde and Mike Bordin were still in the band.. Meaning, the principal cinematography was filmed at least three years ago plus.. Which would make sense that the 2002 version of "Crazy Train" would be in the film.

I have to say, I'm really happy for Ozzy that he sounds and comes off so healthy nowadays. His speech is clear and articulate and he reminds me of why I ever liked him in the first place: he's cool! When you watch some of the early-mid '80's interviews, he has that same sort of clear articulation. I never realized how much stuff he was on during the filming of 'The Osbournes'. I like where he's at now. For Ozzy to get sober and remain that way for way over five years is pretty damn incredible.

It always annoyed me that people thought Ozzy was stupid, or talentless, or whatever. Hardly. He knows how to work the parameters and make the most of it. He's been singing really well lately and I'm happy for him that he has it all together now. I hope he and Black Sabbath are at work on something. Why not? 'Never Say Die!' may have been the last studio album with Ozzy for almost 33 years, but why not have a go at making another one? No one's getting any younger. But that's neither here nor there.

It will be cool when 'Vh1' or one of those t.v. channels begins airing the film. That oughtta turn a few people around as to why Ozzy is who he is: an original.

Cheers, Everyone.
Later!
