Re: BOB & LEE, BOB & LEE!!!!!!!
So what was the story with Jake's exit from the band? I vaguely remember reading some interview at the time when Badlands first came out, but for some reason I thought his time was just up and he wanted to get out so he quit, but I guess my memory is off. I do remember him saying something in the interview that the bass player from Badlands auditioned for Ozzy's band and Ozzy didn't want to hire him before he even heard him because he showed up in sweat pants and a baseball hat or something like that.
Re: BOB & LEE, BOB & LEE!!!!!!!
In every interview that I read immediately after his departure, Jake said he thought he was still in Ozzy's band until he was told he wasn't. He (Jake) said the first he heard of it was through his guitar tech and that maybe an hour later Ozzy himself called and told him.
The most recent version I have heard is from Ozzy himself, I saw him say in an interview last year, that the reason he let Jake go was because he listened to bad advice from Phil Soussan and Randy Castillo. Now, that's from Ozzy himself not me or anywhere else. Of course, who knows what Ozzy remembers correctly at this point, lol!!!

Re: BOB & LEE, BOB & LEE!!!!!!!
yeah.. Tedeeoo calls it right.. Ozzy said in his book that when he hired Joe Holmes he Almost called and offered the job to back to Jake instead because he realized well after the fact the he fired jake over something Jake didn't do. And that he listened to people he shouldn't have.
From what I understand.. Jake really isn't into the whole im a rockstar thing. Word is that he loves to restore classic cars. He's a greasemonkey.

you didn't say Jake was a saint. My bad.tedeeoo wrote:axeman_12656 wrote:Cracks me up. Now lets all paint Jake (who's playing i love) to be a saint. last i saw of jake he hardly had any teeth from his years of drug abuse. nuff said.
I have never seen anything negative from Joe Holmes. what did he have to say about them?
Forgive me if this quote was not directed at my post but, where did I say Jake was a saint? It was merely my recollection of the things I read after he was dismissed from Ozzy's band, and I stated in my post that there were probably things I did not know. As far as Joe goes, that is my impression of the situation from things I have read from people who were/are supposedly close to that situation. I have never seen or heard any interview with Joe about Ozzy or anything else for that matter so I guess I should have mentioned that in my post. I am not passing moral judgement on Jake, Joe, Ozzy or anyone else, my post was just my thoughts on what is being said here, nothing more, nothing less.
I get defensive in threads like this cause its like some people... not saying you but some people try to make it like Ozzy has fluked into a 40 year career. That's insane. I do hate the fact that they Ignore Bobs contribution. without Bob we may not be talking about this today. But everytime Bob speaks it sounds like he pouts more and more.

It should be pointed out the The Ultimate Sin hasn't been erased from ozzy's, I see it new in plenty of shops still. Yes it was removed during the late 90's, that was sharon being the bitch that we all love (well tito does anyway
)
here's the interview tedeeoo was talking about......tiny bit about jake half way down

TUS is my favourite ozzy album bar none and has been since 1986, I think the fact that ozzy has added 2 songs from it to his set list this tour shows maybe he realises now that it is a better period of his catalogue than he remembered? what ever the reason is it was so cool seeing Gus playing "killer of giants" note perfectly

Not to highjack this thread or anything but axeman you are right, Jake absolutely abhors the music business. I did see where someone who apparently knows Jake said that Jake had mentioned he would get "back into it", so to speak, if the right thing came along. He (Jake) has been somewhat more visible over the last year so who knows. One thing for sure about Jake is that he only does things when he is ready, and he apparently will absolutely not be pushed. That's why I wish he would write a book, I think he's one of the few people who would write a truly honest account of how things work within the Osbourne camp, without sugar-coating it to save face with Ozzy and Sharon. I do not think Sharon could convince him to do otherwise the way she seems to do some former members of Ozzy's band. Plus, he's had an interesting enough life and career outside of Ozzy to sell a book on more than just his time in Ozzy. I'd love to ask him what it was like coming up in the same area that EVH and Randy came from, don't you know all those guys that came out of the L.A. area have some cool guitar-related stories (among others) to tell about each other? It would be cool to hear all of them, it would be really cool if someone could get Eddie (VH) to not be Eddie (lol) for a little while and get him to talk about he and Randy pre-fame.
And to bring this back to Bob in a roundabout way, I've always thought the best version of Ozzy's band post-Randy was Bob,Jake, and Tommy, the clips I've seen of this band with Carmine were really good to. To me, I don't see how any documentary about the Randy era of Ozzy's career can be done without Bob, Lee, Jake and Brad Gillis (and Bernie to for that matter). I mean, those were the guys that were there when it all started with Randy and those were the guys that had to follow him, to me those would be the most interesting stories to hear, we've heard Ozzy's and Sharon's take many times over at this point. Sorry I've rambled so much

No problem man, truth is, when I was a teenager (many moons ago) Jake was a saint to me in alot of ways. I totally agree with you, to often Ozzy himself gets discounted in all of this, whether anyone likes how he and Sharon do things, you can't deny his talent and for all of us, his knack for picking truly gifted guitar players.

If the only song on TUS had been "Never" I'd have probably been happy with it, lol!!! And I think "Rock-n-Roll Rebel" is one of the unsung classics of Ozzy's career!! It is cool to see Ozzy doing some of those songs again, now if only he would do S.A.T.O., I've always thought that was one of the most bad-ass songs Randy ever wrote!!!

Re: BOB & LEE, BOB & LEE!!!!!!!
Blasko, Ozzys current bass player, said that Ozz told him to learn some diary of a madman stuff. then Blasko said it would be fun to play S.A.T.O and YOU CANT' KILL ROCK AND ROLL live. Sounds like JUST MAYBE ozzy is thinking about breaking them out live. Would be AWESOME

....not with that current band it wouldn't
Re: BOB & LEE, BOB & LEE!!!!!!!
and a few of you are right. Jake has NO interest in being a rock star. Zero. He made reference to this when i spoke to him in late '09. Doesn't miss that "godforsaken" business at all.
Re: BOB & LEE, BOB & LEE!!!!!!!
Hey halo,
I was wondering if you would mind telling us about that meeting with Jake, did you see him at a show, just run into him or what. And what all did you talk to him about? What were your general impressions? Of course, if you'd rather not I'd understand completely, but it sounds like you had a nice meeting with him, much like I did with Doug Aldrich (a true gentleman in every sense of the word) last month.

Re: BOB & LEE, BOB & LEE!!!!!!!
hey man, he was at an outdoor bar/local band playing type of thing and i got introducted to him. He did look older, of course, and his hair didn't seem quite as bushy.
He seemed rather quiet/hard to talk to, i didn't get to talk much to him, but did say i'd like to see him play w/Ozzy again and see him on stage and that i like the '84 Salt Lake City video. I did get that in. He kind of said quietly that he didn't miss that business and the subject in the circle got changed to the local band and that was about it. Cool encounter though. I totally get all the stories about him being elusive and that he "sticks to himself"
