The book alone is worth the purchase for me. LOVE LOVE LOVE all the great RANDY pics! It has tons of Randy pics and it is LP album sized. Really happy with it!!

DVD:
The main documentary is awesome and has tons of good stuff with outtakes in the studio and Ozzy seems really genuine. The interviews are great and I liked what Nikki Sixx says. It is shorter than I expected or it just goes by so fast because it is so good. I was wanting more at the end. I cried at the end also. I have not cried in years. Randy's death still to this day hurts me so much.

In my opinion the Palladium footage is just ok, but "just ok" speaking of Randy footage is awesome because ANYTHING halfway decent of Randy is RARE and we all want to see it. So is it worth seeing? YES.

For me it is like being at the concert and sitting off to the left on Rudy's side and looking across the stage over at Randy being the furthest away. It is like you are at the concert and you have good seats near the front but not right up by Randy (which is where you want to be). It is unfortunately very frustrating when the camera doesn't show Randy when you want it to. It does show him alot but not like we would film him knowing all his guitar parts. There are some good parts though. I have watched it 3 times so far now and I like it better each time I watch it. Don't expect super clear pro quality because it is not that. It cuts in the middle of the parts so be prepared to be yelling at your tv about that. I assume the super 8 reels ended and he had to reload. He plays 3 of his guitars. Polka V, White Jackson V (C), and of course his Les Paul. It leaves you wanting more but I will take it as it is and enjoy it for what it is.

The After Hours footage is the best I have ever seen or heard it. The whole complete After Hours is there so we finally get the "official" release of that. Sound quality is definitely better than my bootleg DVD I bought a few years ago. Just having this look and sound as good as it does is AWESOME!!! So this is a good thing even though most of us have probably already seen it. Now we have the "definitive" version of it (unless the other camera angles footage surfaces).

I will continue this in a minute. Gotta grab a vitamin water from the fridge and take my dachshunds out.

Now THIS is what I'm talking about!! THAT my friends is a review!! MORE MORE MORE pleeeeeeeeease :-) Shaolin, what did you think of the Diary footage?

Yes. Thank you very much. How is the Diary footage and how many songs?

SPOILERS continued:

DVD

There is a good '81 interview with Ozzy from MTV that is split up in between the Palladium footage and After Hours. It is only Ozzy (no Randy) but notice how articulate he is compared to later interviews. He actually speaks well and doesn't bumble as much as now a days. It is short but good footage.

When the After Hours footage is done it goes to a '82 MTV interview with Ozzy about the Diary tour and stage.

Next is a great backstage interview with Ozzy on Albuquerque New Mexico local news about the Diary tour and stage. It shows Rudy and Tommy warming up in the background. No Randy :( but it is good footage.

Next is live concert footage of the Albuquerque New Mexico Diary show on January 7th 1982
It is 2 songs: Over the Mountain and Mr. Crowley
It is shot with a news studio video camera of 1982 quality from right at the front stage almost on top of Rudy's front floor monitor. It actually looks like it is on the stage right at Rudy's monitor. It looks good but not incredible. Prepare to be mad at the cameraman for not covering Randy when he should have. I actually busted out laughing at one point because Rudy was still doing the same stage move over and over and it is ridiculous. You really just have to laugh at it. I love Rudy don't get me wrong but even he would admit that they should have showed Randy during that part. The cameraman obviously knows nothing about music..and barely anything about camera-ing...lol.... Anyways, there are some great little moments here but be prepared to see Tommy's nice green lit Sonor drum tom during the first part of Randy's solo in Mr. Crowley. The cameraman is all over the place in some of the best parts of the music. It sounds good and at least it is something. There is a little magic there though just because of what the subject matter is. Just be prepared to be a little frustrated since what you want to see is not always covered. At the end the little dwarf in the costume appears from the middle of the stairs on the drum riser. Then just when you are hoping for more, it ends. It definitely leaves you wanting more.

Is this boxset worth it? YES if you love Randy and Ozzy, Blizzard and Diary, then you must buy this. It will leave you wanting more but what is here is definitely worth owning. Also, if you love music, musicians, and want a better future for the music industry, then BUY IT and do not download it from a torrent/pirate site. Plus, You will want the hardcover book with all the awesome Randy pictures!! ..

..and yes, I have 2 miniature Dachshunds. One short haired red boy "Spencer" and a longhaired English Cream (rare) female "Stevie". I have had Dachshunds my whole life. I had "Buddy" a longhaired miniature boy with me in my lap when the news of Randy's death came over the TV in 1982. Yes, they are the greatest dogs. Absolutely love them.

I am going to Kobe Steaks here in Atlanta tonight with my girl to get some Japanese Hibachi so I better run for now. I will review more when I get back on. I will try to answer questions when I get back also.

Lambchops just posted this very detailed review at his Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/randyrhoads.society which I HIGHLY recommend you become a member of it you're not already.

Here you go, my comments:

Book Info:
No information, just photos + lyrics.NOT ONE clear PHOTO OF BOB or LEE. The only clear photo is the BLizzard back cover. Several other photos have been cropped or blurred to not show their faces.

Cross: well, doesn't do anything for me.
Poster: Nice, no Randy, doesn't do much for me.

DVD:
1) Interview Ozzy 1981 MTV (couple mins)

2) Palladium NY May 2, 1981 - Randy visible in most of it, quality is good for 30 year old hand held camera. (29 mins+)
I Don't KNow (incomplete)
Crazy Train (cuts in, incomplete)
Believer (incomplete)
Mr Crowley (incomplete)
Flying High Again (incomplete)
Revelation Mother Earth (incomplete, cut in middle, solo intact!)
Steal Away The Night (incomplete)
No Bone Movies (incomplete)
Suicide Solution (incomplete)
Iron Man (incomplete)
Paranoid (complete, Randy visible in most of the song, has bow at end)

3)After Hours (Dated wrong - Says May 8, 1981, was actually April 28, 1981)(PERFECt QUALITY) - better than even the best boots...
I Don't Know
Suicide Solution
Mr Crowley
Crazy Train

4) MTV News 1982 - A+ quality
("Diary stage set designer" 2mins)

5)Albuquerque News 1982 - A+ quality
Great clear shot of Randy...not long though.

6)Albuquerque Show - A+ quality
From side stage, Rudy's side, Randy in distance
2 songs OTM and MrC- both complete.

OTM
Closeup of Randy blurred by Ozzy. Short closeup of Randy at very end of OTM.

MrC
Camera on Tommy during first solo, then pans out to Randy, in distance. ***too much RUDY!!! - small close up during second solo, very shake. (No offense Rudy...)

7) Thirty Years After The Blizzard (40 mins)
Nothing new, no mention of Bob or Lee. Features a snippet of Tonight unfaded. DEE at the end, Ozzy looks upset. Seems genuine. I enjoyed the short film but again, it was all Ozzy and Randy and very much on Randy...which was nice. I see the DVD as more of a tribute to Randy than Ozzy. Nice touch.

CD - Listening to the Live CD now....very energetic performance. Crowd mixed too loud for me...but doesn't distract at all...Ozzy's vocals do NOT seem to be re-recorded. (Thankfully!) (Have not checked out the mastering but by ear, does sound to be compressed...and rather heavily...)

Enjoying my vitamin V.
Lambchops

I only give it a 6 out of 10 as a whole. I took off 4 points for not including any reference AT ALL to Bob or Lee and for not including what they promised we would get.

Are you referring to the audio, or is the spotlight solo included in the Palladium performance?

Also, I see Believer is incomplete. Do we at least get the solo? That is the one song that is missing on all the existing video boots, other than the bit on the old Palladium footage. I'm dying to see that one live!

Yes, the studio solo is really, really, cool. The part they played as a sample on Amazon was the weakest section. Had he done an "Eruption" style solo it would have blown the balls off of it.
Solos wrote:Also, I see Believer is incomplete. Do we at least get the solo?
Sadly no. He starts going into the solo and then it cuts to Crowley
