Page is awsome no doubt.

Yes, that's true. I always thought, "Look in any window" reminded me of an Alice Cooper song. Reminiscent of "Eighteen" IMHO.SLAGER wrote:I remember reading somewhere a long time ago that Randy was a huge Glenn Buxton fan. Thats right, the original lead guitarist for Alice Cooper. That always stuck with me through the years and can actually hear some influence on Randy in there. Glenn was much much simpler but very melodic and mixed heavy riffs with wierd but cool sounds

On a side note, I also thought Page sucked ( but he does not). I remember a friend buying the song remains the same vinyl and he put it on. It was like yellowed manuscript (to my ears) form 11-12 years before. 1973? THIS IS NOT RANDY! I could of cared less but now after checking out the various boots, videos and albums (not really into those - heard 'em a zillion). Page did a lot of ground work for the HM Guitar. I think a lot of guitarist's could learn a lot from Page. Check out the live lead break in No Quarter on the soundtrack - the video is cut. Oh yeah, the soundtrack is different than the movie. PAGE!!!

Curious to see if anyone knows what Randy thought of Pink Floyd, and better yet - David Gilmour as a guitarist. -???-
Re: Randy's favorite guitarists....
That's a good question. Anyone know that?
Re: Randy's favorite guitarists....
Not mentioned alot but i think Keli Garni said he loved Tom Shultz of Boston. Some similarities between Blizzard tone and Shultzs tone.

Randy was said to have really liked Michael Allsup. Name doesn't sound familiar? Watch him in action on the videos below. In the first one he plays a Gibson SG and on the 2nd one he is playing a Les Paul. Watch the whole video and try to just listen to the guitar parts if you can.

I know this is old but I came across it and just wanted to say something.... He said in an interview that he really liked ritchie Blackmore and jeff beck. He also said that queen didn't influence him like they did for the rest of quiet riot. Alice Cooper is what got him into rock music after a concert so glen buxton as well as be really liked less lie mountain and bb king as well as others that were mentioned earlier.

hell yeah, I hear that. I think that Randy may have respected how Gilmour constucted his work, but I think Randy used a much faster tempo, whereas Gilmour always seemed to find the perfect balance for him, and the rest of PF (well, up to Waters departure).AndrewT1976 wrote:Curious to see if anyone knows what Randy thought of Pink Floyd, and better yet - David Gilmour as a guitarist. -???-
I hear a lot of Randy out there, I think it comes from having to master all the popular licks that his students wanted to learn. He had once said in an interview that while learning something for one student, it would answer questions in his head about other things. That tells me that Randy was able to draw from many elements, while sustaining his own unique sound.

Re: Randy's favorite guitarists....
Randy was a big fan of Black Oak Arkansas for a time in the '70's, so I'd include the guitarists from that band. He also was an Ariel Bender (Luther Grosvenor) - Mott the Hoople - fan. Luther was later in Widowmaker with Bob Daisley...
Another big influence on Randy was Bill Nelson and Be Bop Deluxe. This song, according to Kevin DuBrow, influenced Randy so much that he started to get away from the harder edge Quiet Riot had live so Kevin & Randy would argue about this band.
The way Frank put it to me is that metal guitar was Randy's job with Ozzy, not his passion. He told me Randy was a chameleon who could play any genre with equal mastery.

I woudn't call that a chameleon, I'd call it expertisePaul Wolfe wrote:The way Frank put it to me is that metal guitar was Randy's job with Ozzy, not his passion. He told me Randy was a chameleon who could play any genre with equal mastery.
