radio dj King Buisket Flower Hour record

Post by clashradio »

Wondering if anyone out there knows how to identify the actual venue date of a King Buisket Flower Hour show vinyl record when the only info on the record is the airdate as the airdate will probably not be the actual date of the show?

yeah... thats the wrong date. 1/17/82 would have been a diary of a madman tour show. Would have been a different set list. I think my KBFH show says Indianapolis, IN 6.4.81 of course that's wrong also.

Well, keep in mind it says "airdate" of January 82, who knows how long they shelved it before they aired it. I don't want to pay big $ for the Montreal show if it is going to be released on this new Diary Legacy cd. In Rudy's book he mentioned that the Montreal show was shelved until released as the Tribute record (which we all know it's the spotlight solo). Just because it says Jan 82 doesn't necessarily mean it's a Diary show....

Waiting to hear what Iron has to say, but it seems like his contact who has a review copy of the box, played the live stuff for him last night and he posted this at TK:

Hold the presses! I've just heard something else from the show (Believer) and I have been cross-examining and there are SEVERAL differences between it and the King Biscuit version. Get back later with more details. Something strange (and cool) is going on here!

So, following up on this, it seems obvious now that what will be on the "Ozzy Live" CD is most likely a collection of unreleased live songs recorded on the first U.S. Blizzard of Ozz Tour. They are probably putting on the best versions of the songs listed from the unreleased professionally recorded dates. We should definitely be seeing some new live material based on what Wizard of Ozz wrote below (you can find it by Googling "Ozzy Live"):

The new live cd is available in the box set coming May 31st.

It will also be available on the Legacy Edition of Diary of a Madman also being released May 31st.

Sorry Wizard... you misunderstood my question.

What is the Date of the Concert for the Ozzy Live CD coming out may 31st? lol

Sorry, It was recorded on the Blizzard of Ozz tour

By the way the live cd that will be available with the Legacy edition of Diary and in the Blizzard/Diary box set is not the TRIBUTE cd which I have seen some wonder about. This is a brand new live cd of until now unreleased live songs.

Iron had this to say:

OKAY, here is the BIG news. "Believer" is NOT from Montreal for sure. There are several diffences in notes, fills, etc. but the BIG difference is the end where in Montreal Randy ended the song with a wild ,off the cuff series of random notes (bad ass!) and in the boxset live show Randy ends it normally and lets some harmonics ring out. Also Ozzy's voice does not sound different to me from that 81 period so I don't think they were overdubbed. Also a few different words were used in Ozzy's chat in the intro and during the song so I don't think they'd go to all that trouble. Bottom line is what Randy plays is what I am seeing the noticable differences in.

"I Don't Know" starts different than Montreal also from Ozzy's intro to Tommy using the gong (though I guess that could have been edited in, but I'd not be able to tell from). Again, Randy plays different high notes as oppossed to lows in parts and a few add libs are different.

The big "I know its not Montreal" is "Suicide Solution". This isn't Southampton either. The fills, notes, etc are different from Montreal though it sounds like around that time period (July-August 81) from the way Randy is playing. Now for the spotlight solo, I definitily can tell you it's not Cleveland, Montreal or anything I've heard in boots. This solo SMOKES Montreal/Tribute,s in sound and playing. It also throws in that Quiet Riot part from "Laughing Gas" i mentiioned awhile back plus another one directly following it (in the Ozzy solo). I think that si the part Rhoads25/Diane posted a youtube clip of in the other thread. But anyway, it runs 1 minute, 43 seconds and it is really good. Yeah, Randy's tone is pretty clean (not overly distorted IMO)and you can really here him upfront.

So that's the good news. Even if it had been Montreal it was cleaned up enough to really hear more little bits that may have been turned down in the final mix for KBFH. A really good version of Montreal (complete) would been cool as an official release in some sort of "Tribute" boxset, but since it came out on Wolfgangs vaullt maybe that is a reason they used only parts or something for this. All I can say is I'm very happy that what I've heard sounds totally new.

Thnx Whoopie!
That some of the songs on the live cd are not from Cleveland, Montreal or South Hampton is really good news because it means that at least a fourth show (unkown to us) must have been pro-recorded. :)

Folks,
Keep checking the TK link, as Iron just replied again that Crazy Train isn't from Montreal, either...

The Montreal show was broadcasted by KBFH:
Sept '81 (only 5 songs)
Jan '82 (9 songs)
May '82 (same 9 songs)

These are the broadcast/air dates you'll see on the KB records and are all Montreal. The "que sheets" that went along with them state "recorded during the summer Blizzard of Ozz tour".

In 1989 they re-broadcasted Iron Man (with the ending of COTG edited onto the end of Iron Man!) as part of their Live Cuts program. It was distributed to radio on CD, but they culled it from vinyl! The cue sheet on that one states it was recorded at the "St. Dennis Theater, Montreal, Fall 1981, Featuring Randy Rhoades" (sp)
