I raised this back on .tk about a year ago - the Les Paul in question is a friend of Kevin dubrow's and was on stage when Randy went upto guest with them on one night.

I would accept that reasoning Meadsie, except it seems the same guitar appears at the Starwood show from 10-26-79. He also had the snakeskin strap by then and in the Whiskey photo, Randy's still got the black strap with the bowtie pin on it.That photo appears to be older than the Starwood video. I do hope the "mystery" guitar belonged to KDB's friend...I'm driving myself insane on this one.

Wow, so you don't think Kevin could have had a friend for a long time? Maybe his friend's Les Paul inspired the purchase of Randy's Les Paul? (Yeah, Yeah Mick Ronson, blah blah blah) Randy originally played an SC when QR started, so what if he had a chance to play Kevin's friends Les paul and really liked it, hence the purchase of one for him?

Good reasoning Paul, still not the answer I'm looking for. Although I do appreciate the "idea" of what inspired Randy to want a white Les Paul (I've always heard the Mick Ronson thing too), the question still is....Who owned the "mystery" number 2 Les Paul?

Well, Kevin's not gonna answer that now, but I suppose one could contact Kelly Garni and ask him?

and the verdict is in....Kelly Garni confirmed, most likely belonged to one of Randy's students. Randy owned only one Les Paul. Wonder if that student still owns that guitar?..... Well, case closed for me! Thanks for everyones input. Especially Kelly Garni!
