Iv'e been asking this a few times in another thread, my question is..........Somebody has this (box-set) and listened to it, but there's NO mention of where it was recorded? I find that odd. So when I buy the Legacy Edition of Diary with the Live disk, nowhere in the liner notes will it tell me what show it's from??

As a collector of live audio for 30 years plus I know the extra riffs that RR played during his solo and if that is the case this show is more likely to be earlier than Clevland because that extra riff was used prior to Cleveland and then seems to have been kept out of all the solos after Cleveland (I think). The Flying Dutchman wrote:Well if someone with the knowledgde of Iron can confirm it's neither Montreal or Cleveland than my theory (Rudy mixing up two shows: Indianapolis vs Montreal ) must be wrong. And of course I don't mind! This is wonderful news and makes the box even more interesting! (maybe it's the audio of one of those shows Dave Tangye mentioned being pro-filmed?)Tito wrote:just read this at tk thanks iron!!!! Alright, here's the update. I just got off the phone and had a listen to the show in question. Granted I had a not-so great connection and it was hard to hear clearly on alot of stuff, but I'll tell you that the live show in the boxset is NOT Cleveland or Montreal (ie-neither of the two radio broadcasts we've had for 30 years). I had him skip to certain telltale parts that would alert me to any parts I had heard a million times before on those other two shows and was pleasantly surprised there were none. I couldn't hear Ozzy too well but was told that it sounded like the vocals may have been redone. Anyway, during Randy's spotlight solo he does a little bit of Quiet Riot-era solo stuff that he did at a few shows on the 81 tour. I almost thought it may have been a 1980 gig as parts of the solo sounded similar to some of those solos but it's not. Some of Ozzy's song intros were different too than Cleveland and Montreal so I know it's neither of those, even though I know Ozzy dubbed some new chat into the "Tribute" show. I can't be 100% sure if it's a show that we have already in bootleg form but it is professionally recorded from what I heard so it has a better sound than any of the audience boots. Before anyone thinks it is a board tape from Tommy's or Chuck Weisner's (soundman) collection, I think not as that would be a soundboard mix and things would have been bleeding into the vocals and stuff. This sounded pro. So that is GOOD news!
*btw tell Iron that I will kill him if it turns out to be that old 'damn' Montreal show though!![]()
I would be surprised to hear that riff used as late as August 1981, aso the set list and the riff date the show to within a day or so of Cleveland.

Yeah would have been nice to finally hear that suicide solution solo that they cut off from the ep after all these years too! With the osbournes having tax trouble maybe they will be forced to keep releasing new RR stuff?Trigger wrote:Donnie, however many shows Ozzy has recorded from 1980-Mar/1982 I believe that the O's will release them in the next few years because whatever quality they will have a market and Randys profile will grow in the coming years.
I still feel gutted that Southampton isn't first to be released because although I am not a fan of early shows this is the only way to really be critical of the 1980 band in a constructive way.
One can only be hopeful. Im really glad this boxset looks like it isnt gonna have the montreal show!

I fully agree the idea that Montreal was on there just made me lose complete interest but now I just hope the box set will be worthwhile.Donnie wrote:Yeah would have been nice to finally hear that suicide solution solo that they cut off from the ep after all these years too! My question is what's up with the date at the bottom of the poster in the pic Silver Rhoads posted here:
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=5752&start=15
Would they only release the standalone discs on the 17th and then the box on the 31st, or has all of it been pushed up?
I can't make out the date on the small flyer above the single, though...

It was only 1.7 Million. To us its over a lifetime of work. but its a drop in a bucket to them. AND they have already paid it.Donnie wrote:With the osbournes having tax trouble maybe they will be forced to keep releasing new RR stuff?

Well I dont know what it could be !!!!! ??? Because Ive REPEATEDLY heard/read Ozzy say To Quote Circa 1987 Tribute press interviews ect... "Thats it! Thats All I Have of Randy, besides some jamming rehearsals, but I would never relase something that Isnt recorded well, that sounds like a basement" ??? We Know both of Cleve & Montreal were recorded for radio,So they were multitracked, therefore Ozz could redo any Flubs (but he did EVERYTHING)
And as it was Pointed out,he coulda did his Vocas on theese tapes back then in 86-87??
But A Great point is made w/Rudys book saying that they were doing their ReRecording
So If You'll recall from OFF the rails,Rudy said Montreal was a LOWPOINT in the tour as they just had a Bad Night...we all do....But I agree the KBFH 7-28 isnt very enthusiastic/Tight .
Rudy says that Ozzy Almost Jumped off the plane when he heard it on the way from Canada to UK for the HMH show,so a month later another recording would be sweet!!!
But where did it surface from?? My assumption is that KBFH wasnt as upto Par as Cleveland performancewise, that they just used the whole cleve show w/the Drum solo??
So whoever has an advanced copy,....what,No Liner notes???

Hello DM, I wonder how Ozzy would feel now listening to Montreal? 30 years after Randy, OK he might not love his vocals but his opinions of that show might have changed from 'Shit' to 'Wow' listen to those guitars................. I think back in 1981 it might have sounded not great but hindsight and 30 years could change lots!
I like the montreal show and although I like it less than I did a few years ago Randy's riffs are a little diferent and it sounds very much like a different phase in Randy's development.
Whatever the new show proves to be I don't see any reason why they have to keep its location and date secret! And like Dutch said this could be the audio taken from one of the filmed shows Dave told us about last year with the audio removed and cleaned up.
