Good points, Ian. Though it's been said before, Kevin DuBrow seems to have made the right choice in opting out of the film. In the end, even his sister had wine and his brother had albums to sell.
Though this site has the largest collection of shows, thanks to your efforts, it's a small amount compared to how much of it is still out there, languishing in vaults and sadly disintegrating with time :(
At the very least, we now know the Osbournes have Southampton. It's too bad they couldn't release that as a seperate entity, advertising it as volume one of a series of select performances from the vault, with a new show released every quarter.
Hey, I can dream, right?

I'm curious as to why Randy's sister is slighted for selling a bottle of wine in tribute to her brother? She is in the wine business, so where's the issue? She could have put a normal label on the same batch and sold it for the same price to wine enthusiasts, but she chose to put a label on featuring her brother. So what? It's not like it's the first batch of wine she ever sold. She owns a winery and sells wine for a living!

What's odd is that no one talks bad about GMW Guitars, Karl Sandoval, Marshall or Fender/Jackson. All these companies make money off of the Randy Rhoads name, yet they are not seen as money grubbing entities using Randy to make a buck. Why is that?

As for the term 'legacy', it is defined as follows:

1: a gift by will especially of money or other personal property : bequest

2: something transmitted by or received from an ancestor or predecessor or from the past.

To me, Randy's legacy would be the music he left behind and the love of teaching he instilled in and shared with others. We have the music and, thanks to people like Robert LaFonde and Frank Santa Cruz we have seen some of his teaching.

If a book - with actual examples on CD played by Randy in a lesson - were to to be released chronicling more of Randy's lessons and teaching styles (along the line of Rhoads Scholar), that would add to his legacy. As I've mentioned elsewhere, a book on songwriting based on Bob Daisley's tapes would add to the RR legacy. In my humble opinion, a documentary telling us what people felt about him adds nothing.

Honestly, I'd rather hear Bob Daisley's demo tapes or Frank Santa Cruz's lesson tapes more than I'd like to see video of Randy with Ozzy. I've got video of Randy with Quiet Riot, I know how he moved onstage, this new footage will be more of the same, with a different singer and different drummer... not that special to me. Randy helping me learn how to play the instrument he loved would be special.

Me too. I’d much rather have a comprehensive collection of Randy’s Lessons on tape or via some kind method book. I would like to know more about his teaching philosophy and methodology.

Doesn’t Peter Margolis have about two years worth of lessons on tape? I’d love to hear that and “have” the lessons along with Randy.

Also, would like to know more about his writing technique. Where he came up with his ideas and how he worked them out. Maybe much like the notebooks of Beethoven?

Those are some of the unknowns about Randy I would like to know more about.

Wouldn't that be cool, to learn about Randy's writing techniques?

Not meaning to slight Kathy, it's nice she made a tribute to her brother in her own way, as she is in the wine business.
Most recent interviews I've seen where Kelle talks of Musonia or Randy, talk usually turns toward the CDs he's released.
I would guess Randy wouldn't mind that his brother and sister are making a buck on behalf of his name...more power to them.
I've just always been under the impression that the reason so little has been released in terms of Randy's music, be it audio or video has been because Delores doesn't want to come across as making money off the name of her son.
The Marshall, Jackson and Gibson are nice, but they're limited edition museum pieces for people with a lot of disposable income: a very small market. Lots of Randy fans out there, (myself included), don't even play guitar.
What did Kelle say at the unveiling at NAMM? Something along the lines of 'some kid finding this guitar....' what kid has twelve grand?
It's great Randy's name is getting press and noteriety of late, but none of these things really do much in furthuring the legacy Randy left behind...which is his music.
There are two worthwhile things in the retail sense that were released that were worthy in that sense: the Tribute album and the QR RR Years CD.
They were both something affordable that all of Randy's fans could obtain and appreciate.
Randy's music with QR should be released, as a historical document. It's silly for someone to hold back in that regard just because they're going on something he said three decades ago. Nearly everyone who is a Rhoads fan owns these in bootleg form, and can appreciate them for what they are.
This is a pretty good example of what Ian was talking about concerning Randy's legacy being mishandled.
The lesson tapes would be a fantastic idea...again, something truly worthwhile that all his fans could appreciate.
I never meant to slight Kathy, or her tribute to her brother, it's just weird that something like this was greenlighted before something like lesson tapes or QR albums or Ozzy demos were.
The comments were more coming from what Kevin meant about people's ulterior motives, as Randy's name was about to see a lot more press.
I used to think it odd that Kevin passed on events like the memorials and the Rockwalk induction and such...now, not so much. I never saw what he did with the QR/RR CD as a moneymaking venture, but more trying to release a historical and important piece of Randy's past.
It's too bad he never got around to a Vol. II

I started this by complaining about the pointless merchandise and in those I include over priced guitars and a lesser point wine!

Audio, ie Bobs tapes, album outakes, live audio demo's, propper release of QR albums and unrealeased tracks giving KG KD DF credit for Randy's complete early years is what we all want, and not for me because I am a drummer but Randy's complete lesson notes would be amazing.

Sorry if I upset anyone but the wine Doc' pricey guitars can stay un-sold on the shelves for all I care.

Ian, I guess, for me anyway, the importance of the doc would have been the telling of how it really was for Randy on the Diary tour. How things were going sour, how he wanted out and of course the events of 3/19.
The osbournes are going to tell their version of history with their own documentary, including folks like Zakk, who will say nothing but good things.
It seemed from that 10 minute trailer that we were going to hear a more open and honest version from Don, Tommy and maybe Rudy, as well as his closer friends and family.
This was the main reason I'd rather the Osbournes weren't included...we've heard their version over and over. None of these other people had really ever been approached.

Good Lord!!!! Complaining about the wine again is a bit silly if you ask me (you didn't but that's another story). Randy's sister (who's already in the wine business and I'm sure is a personal passion of hers) sells a tribute version of some nice wine in honor of her brother, then donate's most if not all of the profits to the RR trust, and people are STILL bitching about it? Nice that we all have food & shelter (plus most of the other modern necessities of life covered) to sit around voicing opinions about such matters.

IMHO, anything that brings attention to our brilliant maestro is a good thing. Just having those two albums restored to their original recordings and back on sale to the public gives a BIG boost to RR's long term legacy. Being able to point some little kid today to those original albums (and not have them work to dodge the 2002 versions) is big deal.

I was not bitching over the wine just re-saying how un-interested in it I am.

Tom, perhaps you are right about a true telling by people like Tommy and Don but the whole project became weighed down in stupidiity and contrived trys to divide the community at a time when it was healing. I think all of that leads to my lack of interest in it and the O's will only ever tell a side of the story based on either Ozzy's memories drowned in alcohol or Sharons words masked by a memory of official politicing.
At least that trailer gave us a little insight into what Tommy and Don think, and I agree why should we care what Zakk thinks or anyone who never knew him for that matter?
