Re: Blizzard-What if???
for my money... I take Bob over Rudy any day of the week. Those old Blizzard 1980s shows are just different. Sucks that Southampton isn't in the box set.
but one thing none of us has mentioned yet is where Randy stood on this subject. In "I AM OZZY" Ozzy stated that Randy wanted to fire Bob and Lee also. I don't have a hard time believing that. Especially seeing how they brought his buddy Rudy in to play bass. Said they were just always bitching and pow wowing to each other and so on. And of course we all know the quote to Ozzy when randy talked about quiting "the band is geeks and you drink to much"

Re: Blizzard-What if???
Good points, Shaun. It was either Bark or Sin where it was remarked that Ozzy wanted Bob bought back in, as he was simply not comfortable with the prospect of making an album without him.
Ozzy has obviously had great success since continuing forward without Bob starting with Ozzmosis, which I happen to think is the last interesting album Ozzy did, eventhouh Bob didn't participate. But the reason for that success was a large stable of proven hit-songwriters, all using the template for Ozzy's sound that was forged by none other than the team of Daisley and Rhoads.
I don't mean to exclude Lee from this, but he really only had any input on Diary.

Has anyone ever head the saying "there's three sides to every story: yours, mine and the truth"? That always pops in my head when Bob Daisley and Ozzy talk about each other. Whatever one can say about Ozzy's musical limitations, he has been consistently putting out successful albums for 40 years, whether with Sabbath or on his own, and he has been the common denominator. It sometimes comes across as petty when people slag Ozzy for his songwriting ability when the guy has more anthems in his catalogue than most bands have songs.
With that being said, I think the first two albums are the best of Ozzy's solo career by far, and it's because of the collaboration of Randy's extraordinary guitar work, Ozzy's melodies and presence, Daisley's lyrics and Kerslake's work on drums (I think his playing is very underrated on those records.) And I think Ozzy was smart enough to let Randy breathe and expand his horizons, instead of being reigned in as he was on the QR records. Those records are an example of the sum being greater than the individual parts, and the individual parts were pretty impresive. Take anyone out of the equation, and I think those records would suffer significantly. One needs to look (or listen) no further than when the bass/drum parts were re-recorded.

Why have you quoted me here?? nothing you said even remotely had anything to do with what I saidGUITARIDOL5682 wrote:Well how come Bob is talked about more then Rudy Sarzo. Does Rudy write ? but he can play Bob's parts. He can be recognised for his sound and the difference when you listen to both those bass players. So to me that is down to being a player not a performer. Where Rudy was a showman, good looking guy eye candy for the rock chicks. Don't get me wrong i love Rudy's work but if i had to pick between the 2 it would be Bob. If your not part of the nucleus of the band you are just that, a performer. No writing credits or royalties and just being a hired gun. If Bob wasn't as good as he was, do you think Ozzy would of went else where to find a writer as good. Remember it was Ozzy who fucked up with Bob ripping him off for what he was owed. He could of carried on writing classic tunes with a classic band.

I used Rudy as an example of someone working alongside Randy i.e Bob being there earlier then replaced by Rudy. To show you how the difference can be compared. I'm not banging on your drum mate it's plain and simple to see that Daisley will always be recognised as a massive part of the Blizzard of Ozz early albums. Like i said, why did Ozzy get him back plain and simple because the guy is a good player and song writer.

...and I have agreed with the from the get gosytharnia wrote:I'm not playing down what bob contributed but clearly it was a band effort that made those albums magic and if you took out any of the players out then it wouldn't have been the same
out of interest does anyone know if there was much writing going on with rudy/tommy??.....they were in the band with randy for roughly a year so they must have worked on something (probably in "off the rails" but I have lost my copy). It would be interesting to see if the direction randy was heading changed from jamming with different guys...
that's pretty much been my point for this whole thread...well saidVtrockgod wrote:Has anyone ever head the saying "there's three sides to every story: yours, mine and the truth"? Wasn't Randy have said to be getting heavy into the Syth with guitar style stuff.. kinda like Van Halen and even ozzy on Bark At The Moon really? Seems like i read that once.sytharnia wrote: out of interest does anyone know if there was much writing going on with rudy/tommy??.....they were in the band with randy for roughly a year so they must have worked on something (probably in "off the rails" but I have lost my copy). Re: Blizzard-What if???
One of the points I wanted to make was that even if most of those old songs just built off of Randy's riffs and went from there, a "party band" (not an insult) like Quiet Riot would have no use for riffs like The Diary of a Madman intro, or Believer, Crazy Train, Mr. Crowley, songs that showcased Randy's talents, but were needed to set a dark atmosphere for Ozzy's maniac persona. So, Randy would have needed Bob and Ozzy as a creative outlet, just as much as they needed him.

It was along the lines of Styx and Boston

Re: Blizzard-What if???
Someone brought up Bob's success before or since his time with Ozzy. I'll counter that with asking what did Randy do before Ozzy? You can't tell me the QR stuff is good songwriting... It is "going nowhere" local band quality at best. Sure Randy was a PHENOMINAL talent, but he needed guidence, which is what Bob provided. Bob's lyrics are great as well...
Here's an interview with Don Airey where Don mentions how important Bob was in Randy's development as a songwriter (1:06). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FbeCFkl1D40

which again just reinforces my (any most others) point that it was all involved, not just a part here and there....AGAIN without any one of the four these albums would not be what they areSolos wrote:Someone brought up Bob's success before or since his time with Ozzy.
