How do you improve video quality on bootlegs?

Is it possible to clear up footage like the 81 New York footage? If so how would you do it, any software I could acquire to do that?

You could do some Color fixer effects & saturation but I would reccomend trying to locate a Good copy of it because it was Bootlegged so frequently in the 80s & 90s that the Quality Suffers & varies from copy to copy (as I have had about a half dozen) over the years & they all look different.Although some of the copies on Youtube are about as Good as theyre gonna get
I heard the guy who filmed it had given a copy to Sharon in the 90s...but dont know what ever happened to him????Same w/the Chicago fooage.Does anyone know anything more about theese guys???

I've wondered why the Chicago footage is so choppy, is it because of the actual filming or that's just the copy that's been circulating? Really I want to enhance the NY 81 concert and make it a tad clearer.

I've attempted to fix the videos up before. I've had some success with the After Hours footage, but I really haven't tried with the other footage.

That's Crazy Train, I darkened the video up (I should probably fix that to be honest) and fixed the audio up. I've had a few compliments on the audio because I managed to bring the guitar out more.

I dont know for sure???But I have had mutiple copies over the years & the "Big Droupouts" were mostly in the same spots...but not all of them.
There is a rumor that the Chicago footage was Doctored & Chopped up to make it look that way so in the future the Owner could sell a Clean UnCut Copy but none of that has ever been proven? It would be great to see the Intro to OTM & the rest of the set,but I doubt it even exsists.I hope im wrong.
As for the NY footage....The story goes that the Guy who taped it had come to Tape/See Motorhead & he ran out of Film/Batteries 1/2 way through Believer.
Its strange because on some copies Ive seen when Believer cuts out a brief second or two of Iron Maiden @ the Same venue (the NY Palladium) cuts in as if the guy used the same tape,but thats all I know.Ive heard over the years that Both of the Bootleggers who filmed have spoken out,but Ive only heard about it.

Great job on the video! The color of the video is awesome, what program did you use to edit the video?

Well, I took the audio out with Quicktime Pro, then edited it in Audacity, and I think I used Cyberlink Power Director to edit the whole thing together.

The problem with all the old footage that is circulated is its copied from tape to tape, Its an analogue process and every time its done you get a drop in quality. You really need to get close to the original copy say a 2nd or 3rd generation copy to be able to keep it in its original form. Its not like copying footage digitally today which doesnt loose its quality no matter how may times you copy it.
So the answer really is other than changing contrast and colour theres not that much else you can do.
