Hey Tab,
Thnx for clarifying this! Sorry to hear you lost contact with those brothers because of this. Oke, you maybe broke a promise. But you shared lots of stuff here. Not sure those brother do (or want?) understand where you're comming from. You had the best intentions, as always. (imo)
I'm not gonna say we deserve it, but imo that footage should be enjoyed by the fans. But hey, it's not our footage, it's up to those brothers what to do with it...... I do wonder about their motivation not willing to share it? I don't care if they make a few bucks by doing that, they don't have to give it away for free. If it's about $$$$ they better be quick before the O's will put out some stuff. Soon or later it's gonna happen. Also if it was really the only stuff out there I think the O's would probably already have a copy by now. But you never know. Maybe they were only 'allowed' to film under certain conditions....
Anyways the stills you share here from this Phoenix show look very promising! 8)
The winner of the rat race is still a rat.

No doubt Tommy Aldridge probably has a soundboard tape of this show to sync it up with buried under a pile of junk in his closet. Seems everyone and their dog has stuff just rotting away in storage, unseen and unheard by anyone else. Just blows my mind beyond words!

These brothers better shit or get off the pot soon with this footage before it deteriorates anymore. I think it's safe to assume they're not storing it in a humidity and temperature controlled storage room for film, and probably haven't had it properly digitized yet either. That stuff only has a shelf life of 20 years, and we're already a decade past that!!

Thankfully we at least got to enjoy a few stills from it thanks to you!! And thanks for setting the record straight on it too.

Yeah, this is really a shame. On one hand, the guys that filmed this are under NO obligation to show it to anyone. On the other hand, I don't understand why they WOULDN'T? Maybe if they made their identities public they would get sued? Maybe the O's have already threatened them? There's always a possibilty that a lawsuit would mean that they would lose the footage and of course the rights to it.

It amazes me that there does seem to be more stuff out there and it isn't getting released... what is the problem? Why can't a bunch of adults work out their differences and make Randy's fans happy? It is WAY past the point where releasing footage/audio/etc no matter how trivial it may seem would look like a money grab. If Randy was named Randy Darrell Abbott instead of Randy Rhoads we would've had Randy lunch boxes by now...

I know it all comes back to greed on somebody's part. I suppose there is a possibility that Randy's mom is putting a kink anything new getting released too. Of course, she did allow the release of the subpar QR material so who knows... All I can say is that I am very frustrated. I didn't get turned on to Randy's playing until late 1982, so I just missed the boat. I remember one of my aquaintences during that time being into Ozzy and we all thought he sucked (I was 11 or 12). Shortly after that another friend pulled out his brother's Diary LP one day and we must've listed to Over the Mountain about 10 times in a row just being bowled over by the sound of it, the heaviness, the catchiness, and of course the solo. We realized that we were wrong about Ozzy after all...

Hey maybe the Brothers made contact with the Osbournes?... Sharon did say they had more than one film of Randy when talking about the 30th Anniversary releases. She said they were sorting through them trying make since out of the different tapes, because they were the old style films(super8?) That makes me think she said "trying to make since out of them because maybe one of the shows didn't have sound and they are going to sinc something up or do them up right. Just a positive thought  :D

The photo's look a lot like the footage for E.T. 1982. Don't let my words be misconstrued.

TAB wrote:thanks, it's a strange thing how thing come to be in life. It is funny how things play out in life. It's sad. Though I have seen other things also in the Randy realm. I just don't know why it is like this being a Randy fan. Even Hendrix was briefly around and way before Randy and just so much is out there.
Yes, It is a real shame that such a beautiful person's legacy gets treated in such a way. Just like Hendrix, I also think about Bon Scott from AC/DC and how much material is not just out there, but actually available to the fans. Granted though he was in the band for six years and they did do more TV appearances than Ozzy, however it just makes me wonder (just like yourself) why this has happened to Randy.

But like always, one can only pray, hope, keep the faith or even cross your fingers that one day we may see it in the flesh.

You know, at the end of the day, imagine a kid walking into a Wal-Mart (or whatever is in your neck of the woods) and seeing this short blonde haired guy playing guitar like no one has ever played it before and wanting to pick up the guitar because of it. It would happen! I mean at the end of the day it's really what Randy would have wanted, he lived for the music, you can't deny that!

And thanks for the screens mate, It's great to see something so special and know that more is defiantly out there.

I haven't posted for a while, but I've been online to read what's going on with the DVD etc etc etc. Hopefully things will move quicker next year... maybe time it to the 19th March - which would be good for Randy and his fans.

Seeing these stills gives us all hope that as the years move on (and let's face it we're never going to lose our love for Randy and his playing) that more and more footage, tapes, photos and the like will come to light. I'm not giving up hope - that's for sure. I'm happy with what I've got so far of Randy. There's some quality boots out there now (Milwaukee 1982, Chelmsford 1980) which are very listenable -- and although I want more of his great playing, I can wait. It's payback time for the guy, and I think everyone's working hard behind the scenes to deliver a quality package.

One question though, forum members - was a price for this footage from the brothers ever raised? Do they want to sell it? Or the copyright to it? Is it in our reach to obtain it for a price through this very forum? There's one way we could get it and that's through http://www.kickstarter.com/ where money is raised for projects such as indie movies, comic books, art and design etc. Surely this footage is and should be kept safe and seen by the fans who deserve to see it. And maybe Ozzy would too. Let's face it, Randy was a great friend... and seeing stuff like this with Randy in action should bring back great memories.

Tom,

Thanks for trying to bring this to the world. The stills are living proof of what many of us have hoped for for a long time-very rare, high quality RR footage 8) Like others, I'm a bit puzzled about what the bros want. If its just $ then why not make the deal now while Randy is getting the most interest he's had since the 80s? :? To think those two may be the only people who get to see the Phoenix show over and over is disappointing, but any misunderstanding can be worked through. If the bros are real about the RR community one day getting to enjoy this then they can make it happen. TAB, your motivation over the footage makes sense to me, but theirs is less clear.......

You know I believe there is just us diehards who actually give a shit about the early years of ozzy with our man on guitar, sure a few new kids have figured RR's talent and appreciate him- but for old geezers like me who have stared at the posters and wondered what it would be like to see him live and hoped for footage to surface(thanks Ta) we are few,and to put it out there I bet there are between 100-400 people in the world who even give new RR material a second thought never mind "waste" 30 years waiting for it  I am grateful that all the guitars and amp have been released that is cool but again there were 150 amps made and 2 are gathering dust here in music stores and the price is half what I paid(no demand). As for the phenoix footage if it's been hidden till now why ever release it-if it comes out great I'd buy it but the general public could care less. How many fans did Ozzy lose when any of his guitarists left? Answer-none gained popularity??? Ozzy was here on Saturday and Aunt Jemima could be on guitar and nobody would have cared. I have officially stopped caring about any new stuff ,in case I didn't clue you in with the rant

Agreed Jay,but in reality I think that there are prob more RR fans that are either invisible or simply just dont look round the web.Ozzy puts out a New Anniversary editions & I am sure they will sell as did the Bogus 2002 Re-Recordings.Shit theres even that Company that ReReleased the SOTD Concert & called it "Blizzard of Ozz" to sort o get that extra market w/the Blizzard tag that is Bogus. But Even Ozzys last album (Black Rain) managed to sell a Million copies & while in the Big Picture thats not too too many it is still a Shitload in this "Internet" day & age.

I agree with DMRX, there's a lot of metal fans who are also RR fans who wouldn't necessarily visit these forums, but would throw down for new RR releases like new unseen footage. Most older metal fans love and revere RR.

Absolutely! The RR Society FB page is 30,000 strong now! Up 10,000 from just this spring I believe! A lot of them may not be as diehard as us, but I'm sure a lot of them would be anxious to view this footage!

I was shocked when I got my RR portrait custom framed, and the young girl in the framing shop actually knew who he was and was familiar with his PDV that he's playing in the portrait, and she's not a musician at all.
