They had locking tremolos back then (Though, not as good as the ones today) so if he liked to use tremolos a lot, he would have had a locking one. Besides, if you've ever heard the bootlegs you can tell he didn't use the tremolo too much. He only used it on the occasional song in little bits.

depending on what guitar he used. most of his songs were with the les paul, so he could only bend the neck a little to get a slight dive.

for some reason he used the pdv for alot of the tremelo, being mr crowley and suicide/solo. and only a little bit with the white jackson concorde.

Yeah Randy Was a Master at Bending that Damn Les Paul (IDK & Crazy Train on Afterhours)
in a post a few weeks ago I mentioned how (I think it was abut the price of the Gibson) & how I cant believe the thing didnt break over the years the way he Bent it:)
He made a Damn art out of it & simply didnt need the bar because he had such control over that LP.I have seen So So Many people playing Crazy Train on Youtube & use the Bar where Randy bent it.I hadnt really thought about it until about a year ago I was watching the AH video for the thousanth time & it hit me!

A good example of that bending is when he play Laughing Gas. He really pushes that guitar to its limits on that song.

hate to mention it, but jake e lee was pretty good at that too. i think it made more of a statement doing that without the tremelo.
