March 19,1982~Where Were U?
Moderators: Randy Perry, The Flying Dutchman, Stiltzkin, skezza, Trigger
Was not a big fan of Ozzy's band at the time although I took an interest in his career. I heard Flying High Again the previous October and thought it was a good song.
I always listened to the English rock radio show The Friday Rock Show mentioned earlier in the thread but missed it that Friday evening.
I heard about the accident in the English newspaper The News of The World on the Sunday...headline was "Rock Star Ozzy in plane horror".
I recall being very saddened about what happened....still am to this day.

Me and a friend had seen Randy the night before in knoxville ,I was 16 and my first concert. I had went to see Ozzy because i was a big sabbath fan and one of many bummed on him leaving sabbath, I had not really become an Ozzy solo fan yet The show was unreal so theatrical with the castle. The next day at lunch me and my friend went out for a hamburger and heard the news on the radio, they said it was Ozzy at first then later they confirmed it was Randy who had passed along with the others. I was frozen and could not believe we had just seen him the night before.

I was at school all day till about 2pm. KING HIGH School, While I was driving home ,,on the radio they were talkin about tomorrows show and how they didnt know if it was still going to happen. THEY(d.j.s) were tryin to get more details about the crash. THEY talked about ozzy had died,,then talked about RANDY. Wasnt confirmed. I went home and called my buddies who were going with me to the show and they said they had heard but didnt know anything.
THE word came down who was killed and the show would still happen BUT with NO OZZY and his band.
RANDY had died in the crash. They did play a lot of BOO and DOAM on the radio that day. 2 of my friends opted out of the show. THEY went and got there money back(the ticket and promotor people offered this to anyone who didnt want to go. I went anyway. The show was no where near packed and banners for randy flew that day.
Thats a short version of the story. Thanks
peace

ITS ALL ABOUT THE RHOADS
I was on March break when my brother Jamie ran out of his room telling me "Ozzy's dead"! I'm of course saying "Yeah right,p*ss off". That's when he turned on the radio. It was still sketchy then but,my heart was stuck in my throat. I remember thinking this has to be a nightmare. Then, the new's broke. I broke down and all I remember is locking myself in my room for day's. It still hurt's just thinking and writing about it. It changed my life forever. I went from a nice, kinda shy good guy to a don't give a f*ck,screw you a**hole, getting into trouble and not caring about a damn thing anymore. Some thing's can change your life. That did it for me. I'm going on 40 now and the stupid thing's I've done, the drug's,booze, fighting and god know's what else took it's toll. When I hear anything with Randy on it,I feel like that nice, kinda shy good guy again and it gave me hope to remember the good. I can say I smile alot more now. Randy inspired me to straighten up and lead a good life.
HI PCM
Randy has managed to touch the lives of many people in all parts of the world, 25 years later he still makes a difference to so many of us. Consider the people who were not even born when we lost him on that sad day back in 82, so many young people have grown to love this small guy with the huge guitar sound and even bigger heart.
On a different note his talent has led so many of us to find groups of like minded people (like us at ultimate rhoads) and helped create strong friendships with people from all corners of the planet who would not have met under any other circumstances.
That might have become what Randy's legacy really was

Way way back in March 1982 I was working the night shift alone at a Seven Eleven store. I clearly recall reading the Rolling Stone magazine when their were no customers around. When the page that had the announcement of Randy Rhoads death hit my eyes, I went into a short state of shock. I had not been listening to the radio or watching TV for days.
Before I heard this grim news I already had my Les Paul Custom guitar plugged into my Fender Super Reverb amp w/ (fuzz/wah/echo). In the non reverb channel I had a turntable plugged into the input. The album on that turntable was the first album Blizzard of Ozz. I had been working on trying to jam out that fresh sound that Randy introduced to the music/recording world.
Of course, I had to continue that fun work. Yet, what a sad event Randy's early passing will always be.

Re: March 19,1982~Where Were U?
I was in Junior HS. At lunch time I heard everyone talking about it.
Re: March 19,1982~Where Were U?
Down hear in Australia I didn't hear anything on the radio about his death so the first I knew about it was when I picked up Kerrang magazine from the UK a couple of weeks later... The guys in the Record store already knew about it as they did hear something on the radio after it happened. I had that sickening knot in the gut & went numb. I actually thought that OZZY wouldn't continue as a solo artist as well...

What an aweful day, somber memories .. In 7th grade after school at my friend Jeff C's house. Ozzy Diary was our favorite along with Number Of The Beast, Screaming For Vengeance, Moving Pictures, Too Fast For Love, and Blackout.
I remember Jeff saying Randy Rhoads was killed as he ran down the stairs to hear the radio better, still we can't believe it really..

I remember hearing it on the radio, the news was sketchy at first with reports that Ozzy had been killed along with another person but, nothing was official. The media was trying to get more details of the crash! When it was announced that Randy had died I was so sad and I couldn't believe it nor did I want to! I remember watching the news and seeing a small segment about the crash with video footage of a helicopter flying above the crash site. I just turned 15 only a few days before this happened so I listening to both Blizzard of Oz and Diary albums non stop in a daze trying to figure out why something like this happened??? I was so lucky to see Randy in concert in St. Louis,MO. on Jan. 27th 1982 at the Kiel Auditorium, my very first concert and the best one out of all the concerts I have seen over the years!!!
