Ozzy is a rock star. He is used to having people do and remember stuff for him. Why should he be bothered to when he hasn't acted on his own for decades. He can say Randy was a friend all he wants to, but really, he was just a stepping stone to get to where he is now. At least that is how I feel.
Re: New Ozzy Interview ... RR Super 8 Footage
Actually I do think he genuinely cared for the guy. He has never stopped talking about him and I think Randy's death well and truly messed him up. But I do agree with the rest of your statement.Rhoads-Fan wrote:Ozzy is a rock star. He is used to having people do and remember stuff for him. I agree Ozzy will be carrying a large weight on his shoulders and he must have alot of self blame for the death of Randy. If he wasn't with him on tour and if he had been awake things could of been different. Imagine having to face Delores for the first time after the accident. I genuinely feel that deep down he does still remember Randy fondly and he did turn his career round. If it wasn't for Randy things could of been very different for Ozzy. I was reading in that interview and it's something that was mentioned a few months ago. After all this time Ozzy has not been back to the grave site. He says he'll go back one day ? he's just played in San Bernadino you'd think he'd want to call in and pay his respects. So it just goes to show you after all these years it must still be a heard thing to come to terms with.AceVader wrote:Actually I do think he genuinely cared for the guy. It would be hard enough to lose a friend under normal circumstances. But even further imagine that you were ON the bus. You FELT it hit. You watched the house and garage burn, knowing that this guy was inside, who was so different from anyone you'd known in your life. I cant imagine. I believe that Ozzy feels it should have been him, and he has even said on at least one occassion something along the lines of "Randy didnt deserve it, but I do".GUITARIDOL5682 wrote:I agree Ozzy will be carrying a large weight on his shoulders and he must have alot of self blame for the death of Randy. So yes, I think you are right. I think it really screwed him up. Sharon forced him back out. He would have isolated himself and boozed and drugged himself to death if not for Sharon right after Randy's accident. I think he still bears a burden for it. All of us feel a sense of loss, and we didnt even KNOW Randy. I think it weighs on Ozzy heavily to this day.
Re: New Ozzy Interview ... RR Super 8 Footage
good point vader!i think the way ozzy handles bad things is if you ignore it,it never happened..so i tend to think when ozzy is asked a question about randy it throws him off and puts him in a place he is still trying to forget....even dee in the leaked trailer revealed something to me that i never knew...she says "im still in shock"..so i think this is thier way of dealing with it?maybe im reading too much into it but either way its a very touchy situation when you look at it from the mothers side and ozzy's side..the guilt that ozzy feels has to be rough..and i'll dare say they both feel guilty for (mom)letting her baby go travel and (ozzy)bieng entrusted to take care of delores' baby..i dont think either one of them sleep well at night....AND IM NOT SAYING THEY DESERVE THIS!!ITS ONLY AN OBSERVATION!please dont take it out of context!

Re: New Ozzy Interview ... RR Super 8 Footage
Tito; our friend Sue lost her son about 13 years ago in a car accident, just a few miles from where we live. It was five 17 year old kids all packed in a car. The driver had recently passed his test and they were out and about full of bravado and 17 year old fun...
She said to me that it may as well be yesterday as she is still just as sad thinking about losing him...
Poor lady and poor Delores 30 years later too. That must be just awful to be robbed of someone so young....
and sorry if it reads strange but poor everyone!!!! who experiences suffering!
Matt

Re: New Ozzy Interview ... RR Super 8 Footage
This thread has turned depressing pretty quickly.
As a parent, I cant imagine what Mrs. Rhoads would have felt. I'm not surprised at all that she would say that. If I ever lost one of my children, I really cant even comprehend what it would do to me. Ozzy, Mrs. Rhoads, Kelly, Kelle, Kathy, it must still be terrible for them at times, especially Randy being who he was, not just an incredible player but such a great all around guy by all accounts.
I think that's part of his legacy, part of the reason that so many of us are still such fans. I didnt know him, but I feel like I did in a way by the way everyone talks about him. Not some inaccessible superstar, but a great kid who loved his mom, was good with his students, a regular guy that worked his butt off to be the best guitar player he could be. He's someone I feel I would have liked tremendously. I think many of us share that feeling and I think that's why boards like this exist, not only to admire the man's incredible playing but because we feel like the world lost someone very special when he passed so young, not just special because he was amazing on his instrument but a genuinely kind and decent person.
Imagining what Mrs. Rhoads went through losing her son is terrible. I think I am gonna go hug my kids.

Re: New Ozzy Interview ... RR Super 8 Footage
Matt, that is my greatest fear. My son is of driving age. He drives when we are in the car, but we will not allow him to get his license because of the cost of insurance will go up dramatically as soon as he gets it, as opposed to no change as long as he's driving with us on his permit. We've been in Georgia 4 years and he's lost 5 or 6 kids he knew from school, most through auto accidents. My parents were insane for letting me have a car at 16.

Re: New Ozzy Interview ... RR Super 8 Footage
Eventhough I'm no longer the Ozzy fan I used to be, I do feel for the guy in terms of what transpired in Leesburg. It must be a hard thing to have to live with. God knows he did his best trying to destroy his mind with chemicals in order to forget.
In terms of Randy's grave, there are folks who work there that say Ozzy does indeed visit by himself. It could be sensationilism on their part, but I find it harder to believe that Ozzy hasn't been there in 28 years if he does consider Randy his friend. Truckloads of guilt or not.
As of late, both in his book and his new medical column 'Dr.Ozzy' he claims he has survived being 'hit by a plane'
To me, that is in poor taste to add another link to the chain of the crazy life that is Ozzy Osbourne. True, he was in a bus that was struck by a light plane, but he wasn't physically hit by a plane, and to somewhat make light of it or to brag about it is low budget.
The events of that day and the loss of two friends shouldn't be reduced to an anecdote, in my opinion.
I don't want this to seem like I'm looking to turn this anti-Ozzy, I don't hate the guy, but I also don't sympathize with him for the damage he's done to himself. It's too bad he needs coaching or to rehearse for what seem to be some pretty simple questions. To blow off the footage question, sure, I expected that. To forget who you were talking about thirty seconds before is pitiful.
Sadly and in all seriousness, Ozzy will probably wind up in a hospital with dementia before he's seventy and pass on quietly, much like Syd Barrett.

Re: New Ozzy Interview ... RR Super 8 Footage
Tom i honestly think Ozzy hasn't been to the grave site regardless of what peope have said at the cemetry. He sends a bouquet of flowers every memorial but in Ozzy's mind it must be a very hard challenge to even think about looking over Randys mausoleum and knowing he's there because Ozzy will feel alot of self blame for his death.
As far as Ozzy's reactions saying he was hit by a plane he is lucky to be alive that garage went up in a flash. Imagine if the plane had been lower it would of taking the bus out and all on aboard. So yeah he was in hindsight hit by a plane the wing snapped off on impact then it cartwheeled into a tree and crashed into the garage. Alot of things have nearly killed Ozzy from his over indulgence to his quad bike accident at 3 mph but it just goes to show you he is the guy who burns the candle at both ends. He's calmed right down now but he'll probably out live me and you.

Re: New Ozzy Interview ... RR Super 8 Footage
He certainly has lived a colorful and charmed life, Shaun. More than once he's been close to death, the quad and Leesburg being the closest. I suppose we're fortunate, as it could have been just Jake Duncan and Don Airey who survived.
I was talking with my older brother this weekend and asked him when it was he got into Sabbath, his reply was 1973, with Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. As his bedroom and stereo were next to mine I had no choice but to hear whatever he played. Being eight years younger, that would have made me six.
Obviously, I wasn't into them just then, but I was well aware of who they were...my brother had me convinced the woman on the cover of their debut was coming for me!
It's amazing to me that I've been listening to this man's voice and his music for at least thirty five years!
There was an article written regarding Randy's tomb for a local paper, (I believe), entitled 'Colossus of Rhoads'.
That was where I had read the piece about Ozzy visiting Randy. It could have been the journalist printing that to spice up his article with a bit of celebrity, or the those employed at the cemetary looking for the same, though I'm not sure why one would feel the need to do so...it's a cemetary.
The workers went on to say how every year they set up for the two dates for the fans, the unique things left behind for Randy, nice things about the family, etc.
I have tried in vain to find it again on the web, but have had no luck. It was originally posted on the Facebook society page, perhaps a year ago. I should have posted a link back then.
I suppose everyone grieves differently, but avoiding your friend's ghost for nearly three decades is only making it harder on yourself.
