Yes its true! I found this article in our local paper lastnight. I think Zakk is such a cool guy for doing things like this and had I known I might have tried to be there as he arrived to give him my support.

Hats off to him in one respect, prison work is something my wife and I are considering at the moment in out jobs...

another way I look at it makes me angry as once again people who do wrong in this life, yet again get rewarded. I wonder if the victims who were raped, stolen from or hurt will get serenaded by Zakk? We know the answer to that...

Kinda my feeling too...

There was a local scandal in Canterbury earlier this year. Inmates at the local prison were complaining that the budget for food was too low per head. It was later revealed that the prison food budget (about £50 per person/per week) was twice what the average student lives on

Im one to forgive and prefer to solve a problem rather than lock it away and forget, but, considering i was living on 80p a meal for my last 3 months at uni, it kinda takes the piss

there is a few in the very minority that have been in lots of trouble with the law and are today law abiding hard working citizens..i was in and out of trouble with the law from the time i was 11 up until i was 23..it took a long time but eventually i had to dissasociate myself from my old friends and start over..aside from one incident back in 1999 i have been out of trouble and intend to stay that way..the reason i tell you guys this is there is a VERY SMALL NUMBER of people that eventually learn from thier mistakes and start over and correct themselves..there is no such thing as rehabilitation,not from i have seen..i'l check out this zakk prison thing so i stay on topic..i hope i didnt offend anybody with my post but i felt it was necessary to reply as i been on the other side of the fence(pun intended)bless you guys!!!

I rermber watching a program about the penal systems in the Scandanavian countries and your tolerance is amamzing and convicts re comminting crimes is much lower than that of other western countries.
I remember in Norway an Island was a prison and the prisoners had seperate homes (shared) and cooked and cleaned themselves, they even ran a ferry service bringing tourists to visit and stay for short stays/holidays. The prisoners didnt wear uniforms and were a mixture of petty thieves and murderers! they also had a zero reconviction rate and nobody runs away from the island even though they can leave at will to work and socialise for a certain amount of time everyday or week.

I was impressed.

i have over 21 arrestes and 5 felony convitions have done quite a few stints in the joint, i have been rehabilitated, through my savior, and am clean and sober now nearly 7 years, i do prison ministry 2 times a year here locally once in the summer 2 weeks ago and once during the christmas season. overseas next year i will be going to the prisons in the ukraine thanks to a government invitation i rec'd on the trip this year, i have to tell you this last trip 2 weeks ago i got to play and minister to to young boys aged 15 and 13 who are being tried as adults for murdering their stepfather....and after being 6 inches away from their faces and looking into their eyes i see the youger one did not do it but the older one i see did and is very confused.....but mostly i am ministering to the non-violent drug and alcohol dependant offenders but becaus i also have a violent history i do see the other end as well.

let me just say when you do it its different, you can think lots of things but once your there with them and you have been there yourself. its different, i do see that my being there makes a differeance,
i got a letter from a kid in kentucky when i was at a juvinelle facility there last spring, he sent me a letter last week telling me he was out and going to church and a 12 step program everytime the doors were open and he had gotten a job, that my being there has made a differance in his life,
and that to me makes it worth it.
