Randy's classical guitar

Post by David Denson »

I remember Ozzy saying in an interview that before Randy died that he had bought an expensive classical guitar with some of his royalties.

Whatever happened to Randy's classical guitar? I assume it would have been given to Delores, but I've never heard anyone who visited Musonia say anything about it. I figured a visitor to Musonia would have asked Kelle or Delores about all of Randy's instruments (including the classical) even though they may be locked away somewhere out of sight of visitors

If anyone knows what happened to the classical guitar, or anything about it...thanks.

It is more than likely it is locked up. The classical guitars of his aren't really what most people who visit there wonder about. Most people want to know about his main guitars (Les Paul, 2 Jacksons, PDV) so they ask about those.

If my memory serves me right, the photographer of that photoshoot said in an interview that Randy saw this classical guitar during that shoot, picked it up, and then remembered that same classical guitar from a few years earlier when the members of Quiet Riot had been photographed by the same guy. Randy then remembered the photographer from the previous Quiet Riot photo shoot, because that classical guitar he is holding, jogged his memory.

So I'm sure that's not Randy's classical guitar. But....it is a nice one anyway. :D

EDIT:

In fact there is a thread here at UR that confirms this is not Randy's classical guitar but a Garcia model that belonged to the photographer. Scroll down to "Randy's Last Photo Shoot" viewtopic.php?f=35&t=2162&start=0

Yeah, I think that's backstage at El Paso. Notice the shape of the headstock is the same as the photographers Garcia brand. Wonder if Randy was impressed with his, and got one of the same guitars? :)

Nah, probably a different brand with the same headstock.

So did Randy own the classical guitar in the pic below ?. This was used during the recording of the Diary album.

I am only speculating of course, but re your post David; I think it more likely that it was just coincidentally a similar shape...

The guitar in the mirror picture I think was his nice one (the photo shoot one looked like a cheaper one) it is a silly hunch but the line in the middle of the back and the look of the wood is one i have seen only in countless top notch Classical guitars!

ps also has case looks quite plush too!!!

Shaun without zooming in, the nearest one looks more like steel string acoustic and not classical guitar

Matt could build his own classical guitar!! I know the feeling of getting a guitar made first hand like Randy did. My guitar maker was an ex-engineer and just started making guitars after studying all the great makers. My guitar was #3. I keep it under lock and key in a $400.00 custum left-handed (and their very first one I might add) Leaf case. A wonderful experience indeed...
