It was irritating to see Italy loose that game...especially when they literally started kicking ass in the last 10 minutes. What was THAT all about? They should have played that well the whole tournament!

I don't know if it is the same for anyone else, but when you watch a game in the pub in England you get non stop loud critiques by men in their 50's who are so out of condition they probaby get out of breath ordering their next beer from the bar...but boy are they opinionated (it is actually very funny)

in SE London ( think 'cockney' accent American readers)

"ahh for fuc*s sake! Rooney needs to get in deeper. If it was me i would be playing the bakll to Gerard then running in forward"

Yeah right

Matt

Matt, that is priceless!!
It happens here for every sport...especially American football. We call them "arm-chair quarterbacks". My dad is one of them. The best ones are the really drunk and obnoxious ones. I just sit back and watch them literally pass out in their stools and wake back up immediately as soon as a whistle is blown and yell "you asshole, he was wide open!! I could have made that in my sleep..."

LOL Dennis!

Well the England vs Algeria was the best for opinionated commentary...

One guy (who had been drinking all day) said- "seriously...If it was me, I would say to the boys, look, lets ignore the manager and play the positions we want! i would take the heat for it too...I would you know! This is just fuc%ing bollocks. My old five a side team could play better than this."

It is funny; so funny  The same kind of guys eye women up (way out of their league) and say such classics as 'look at her... she is gagging for it' then when she shoots them a nasty glance 'bloody lesbians'

I'm a little pissed off that I woke up at 7 am to watch the BORING game that was Brazil and Portugal. SNORE. Both teams knew they were in so they decided to try and kill one another. Some of those fouls were just terrible!

Awesome games yesterday :fish: South Korea and Uruguay in the afternoon and the States and Ghana in the evening; plus it was near 30 degrees here, so a lovely day for football ;)

South Korea and the states can hold their heads high, both passionately played games and I am thrilled Ghana, I think for the first time, are through to the quarter finals.

I may be switching support to Spain and Ghana after 5 pm today

Sorry Matt... enjoyed the match though. Most exciting match so far!
BUT if those FIFA stubborns still refuse to let in technology for fair referee decisions after today they should all go  It's incredible....at that moment the whole world knew it was 2-2 except for maybe 3 people.
So yep I feel sorry for England a bit, it would have been a different match, but I think the germans played well.

The Germans out classed England completely, regardless of the disallowed goal Pat.

There are some issues that will be discussed in the English press tomorrow morning I am sure...like how do team members earning £180000 a week play so poorly in major tournaments, yet for their clubs flourish.

Anyway, did a recital tonight after an open mic, and in true irrepressible spirit, everyone had beer and said "what a shit game..but we'll always back them" LOL

It is the same spirit that got us though the Blitz

So do most people see the all around bad performance by England moreso than the disallowed goal?

Yep, but they got a lot of room when england had to come, it maybe would be different if it was 2-2. And england for a while was better when they made their 'second'...... The referee failure had it's impact for sure. Overall, of course the Germans played better. Looking forward to saturday when they play against Argentina. And I hope when it's saturday we are still on track as well. This afternoon will be the first 'test' for the Dutch.

(about the 2nd 'goal' maybe this was eventually some justice for what happened in 1966 when england made a 'goal' against germany ? )

Nicole, I am a mere humble, singular dweeb of a population of circa 66 million people; so I am not sure if my view is held by the English population as a whole :fish:
At a guess though, from hearing people talking in the shops today (when I did my grouceries) and also the glimpses I have caught of the news, the consensus seems to be that we deserved not have been even in the last 16 and the Germans played far superior football.

Holland were awesome Pat!
Suzie and I have thought them right from the start as the very under estimated dark horses of the competition! They could lift the cup!

Can't wait to see Ghana on 2nd of July! I am loving it all :) Ghana play with real spiritxx

I don't think they were awesome. They haven't shown their best playing yet. Friday to Brasil they must show more or else they go home. It will be interesting because both play very alike. And yep the play 'borring' enough to get the cup!
