Randys pedals from guitar to amp

Post by TheMrAxeman »

So i thought that i knew exactly where Randy had his pedals in the chain for the replica i am making, but i PM'd wareagle about Randy distorting his wah and he told me i was wrong I dont know what to believe because i always heard Randy had his Wah closer to his amp in the chain than his distortion plus. so could you guys tell us whose right?

i pmed u a bunch of pics of his chain :) the wah after the distortion is too much effect, and drains out everything else. generally wah is before.

ik thats how it is generally placed, but im almost positive it was guitar>volume>echo unit>distortion plus>stereo chorus>flanger>delay unit>ten band eq>wah>marshall

no i can tell you definatly not for that. its the exact opposite haha

guitar->wah->d+->eq->flang->chorus->space echo->delay->volume

first wah always before, it drains out your other pedals, delay has to really be last... all the effect have to really be after distortion and after wah. and the volume must be last because if it isnt it controls the output of the pedals. like lets say you put it first your not only lowering you volume your lowering your distortion and effects.

i still think that his wah is after his distortion tho because how else could he get the "electronic filter" effect? it couldnt be the high cranked tube amp because in quiet riot he had solid states. i know the wah drains out the other pedals but isnt that why he had the true bypass strip. and didnt he want to controll the output of the pedals because thats how he got his clean was from the volume pedal and if it was last wouldnt it controll both the volume and the output?

yea i dont think you are suppost to plug into wah first man it want really do anything like i mean it will though but will sound like shit
but its better off from plugging into volume thats what ive always heard is best but i mean many different guitarist do there pedal boards weird so idk but i think its better off and go with volume

i didnt understand that last post at all hah

yeah i have that bootleg, he uses an insane amount of chorus and at times adds delay, also really distorted and uses his rhythm pickup. i dont seem to understand the sound your getting at? are you talking about his "rolling"tone as i call it. he only uses wah at like 2:05 at the break point uk... and thats a normal wah tone if you have it before. if your had it after when he put the sweep lower you wouldnt hear anything.

the true bypass strip doesnt do anything for signal order. when you switch it on its gonna be before the rest of the pedals.

not at all, a volume pedal controlls the volume of anything after it. so if you put it last in the chain before the amp it controls the amps volume (and if the amp is breaking up its distortion) however if you put it before everything itll controll those volumes too, so he would not only be controlling his amp volume but his delay, chorus, flang, wah, distortion etc volumes and it would sound like crap. sorry dude you gotta trust me on this one...

true i didnt mean to say that 0.0 i acctually just realized going through pics he just plugs into an 'input' and 'output' on his board. not directly to the effects.

I'm uploading a comparison of the wah before and after (I have a different wah, so it won't sound exactly the same)
