Re: Do you think more Randy Rhoads footage exists?
I have heard that Kevin DuBrow had loaned VH-1 his personal videos of Quiet Riot with Randy for a documentary that they were doing, and they lost it. Has anyone heard more about that, was Kevins video ever found?
How many of you out there have stumbled across a camera loaded with undeveloped film from years back, brought it for developing and discovered some long lost memories? I am a firm believer that someone out there has a camera somewhere in a drawer or attic with undeveloped film of Randy in concert.

If I'd be Kevin or anyone else having my personal video with Randy, I'd NEVER give the original tape to any channel or person. I'd made several copies - unfortunately tapes are fragile and susceptible to mechanical damages and you are to keep more than one copy to feel safe. So I hope Kevin's tape still exist in a copy, even in case VH-1 really lost the tape he gave them.johnorlitta wrote:I have heard that Kevin DuBrow had loaned VH-1 his personal videos of Quiet Riot with Randy for a documentary that they were doing, and they lost it. I can't believe someone could forget about RR tape inside the camera.I am a firm believer that someone out there has a camera somewhere in a drawer or attic with undeveloped film of Randy in concert
Yes, a tape or two could be lying somewhere in a cellar but why weren't they already released after all those years? If someone filmed RR in 1981-82, he certainly loved RR (because there were not so many cameras and no mobile gadgets so the people who filmed the live gigs were true fans, not casual). And if he loved RR, he'd never forget about the rare RR footage in his cellar.

I hope someone who has film they're hoarding (for lack of a better term), has been smart enough to care for it. Any film of Randy, circa his career with Ozzy, has reached three decades of age.
Point being that bad things happen to good film that is not cared for/ stored properly. Film cans left in a basement or attic after all these years would be pretty much junk.
I am sure anyone who has existing footage of the Blizzard and Diary tours knows exactly what they have, and any of this footage would be handled with kid gloves, as well as transferred to digital by now.
At this point, I think it's pretty safe to say that by the time the Mayan calendar ends and we are all obliterated by the Flying Spaghetti Monster we would have heard and seen everything and anything related to Randy's brief and brilliant career.
Actually, the final and total release of Rhoads audio/video is one of the heralds of the Apocolypse, according to ancient codex.
Who do you think Rhoads scholars actually are? They've been studying this stuff for millenia! Scrolls read by blue moonlight actually state when you see the golden god fly over the mountain astride the castle stage, the time is nigh!

Re: Do you think more Randy Rhoads footage exists?
You are giving Randy too much credit. People would have filmed these concerts because it was an Ozzy Osbourne show, not a Randy Rhoads show. Randy, while he was gaining fame, was pretty much still a nobody. He was probably seen as more of some "hot shot guitarist" that Ozzy had, than a legendary musician.Maria wrote: I can't believe someone could forget about RR tape inside the camera.

That, and don't forget that people may have been high/drunk at these shows, or just may have forgotten about them all together.
If some average joe recorded a BOO show or a DOAM show, they wouldn't exactly treasure it.

Unfortunately, I don't think Kevin had any copies made, he generously loaned out the originals but the dimwits at VH-1 "lost" them.Maria wrote:If I'd be Kevin or anyone else having my personal video with Randy, I'd NEVER give the original tape to any channel or person. For a roll of undeveloped film to be taken out of a camera and forgotten about happens all the time (not so much now since most are digital now). It would be nice to think that someone will come across a roll of undeveloped film with shots of Randy on them, but I guess after 29 years of storage in less than perfect conditions, the quality of the negatives would be questionable.

Ok, it was the Ozzy Osbourne show. Good enough to treasure, because Ozzy wasn't 'nobody'.Cryptic Night wrote: You are giving Randy too much credit. Of course some people probably filming those gigs did it because of Ozzy, but after all that happened to Ozzy and Randy's life and career they could realize that they own something unique and valuable. And when a person understands he/she owns something special, he/she begins to share or sell that stuff. 30 years is enough to understand that Randy Rhoads wasn't a 'nobody' and that any tape(s) with RR on them are very liquid assets.
People even try to sell non-Randy stuff of 1982 thinking it's Randy! So I believe that if any film of Ozzy/Randy was shot in 1981-82, it must have been already discovered and shown to the world.
We all know that weird thing about Kelly Garni treasuring Randy's broken nail. I don't remember the details, when and how he got it, but how could Kelly know in advance that his friend Randy will become a tragic star so soon and therefore anything related to him is important? He just kept it. So in theory there can be some people around still owning their RR-treasure filmed on those years when Randy wasn't yet famous.
As to me, it's much easier for me to believe in existance of audio footage, but I dare not to dream about video.
Re: Do you think more Randy Rhoads footage exists?
Okay,...So mabey it was an OZZY show, but aarnt you aware that Randy was building quite a name for himself in guitar circles before his death????He Won Sounds in UK & in the USA,Guitar players New Talent award for 81,and Sharon was Already selling Randy Rhoads T-Shirts on the Diary Tour!!!
I just hope that we arnt Shortchanged w/this Dvd & they really Let Us Have it!!!!!Warts & All.
And since its a "Deluxe" release Hopefully there will be a Bonus disc w/both albums like they recently did with Black Sabbath.

Or hearing Randy going over some riffs we've never heard or ideas for songs that he was kicking around.

I don't remember who it was but he said that before Randy died, he was going over some really wild scales that he had never heard anyone play before. Possibly we'll hear some of those.

Hey Maria,
I'm sure Kelly would cover this in his book, if he hasn't already done so here or TK, but basically, shortly before he decided to leave QR & the RnR lifestyle behind, he and Randy had an actual physical fistfight, where Randy wound up brekaing his thumbnail off on Kelly's forehead, (both had allegdly having a thumbnail-growing contest). Kelly had kept said thumnail ever since.
As far as my theory on vid, without being a wiseass, if there is any, if someone was a professional bootlegger with connections, or the venue itself did the taping, or Jet records itself, the folks involved in any of these scenarios know damn well what they have. With or without S&Os knowledge.
Any private (fan) bootlegger would know anyway, as Randy's first known official gig with the BOO band is liste as 9/12/80: less than two years of any possible video shot with two different rythym sections....folks remember if they shot this band, no question there. If brother only filmed Motorhead at HMH in Port Vale, as he says he only had enough film for Lemmy & Co., then you know damn well he wakes up every morning by kicking himself in the ass for that royal fuckup....someone has the insight to film members of both bands shooting the shit backstage at HMH but doesn't film what most definitley appears to be a volcanic set by the BOO band? Yeah, ok....
Ozzy spends an untold amount on the DOAM set, but doesn't film one of the first five shows for posterity at the very least? yeah...ok....
Don't bring up the Brad vid, as that was months after the fact. They didn't have money for this and that...whatever...you have the bucks to spend on traveling with a fucking castle, and no one in the video age thinks to film two songs of live shit of the bread to their butter slinging his six-string? Please...someone filmed an awful lot of Randy fucking off during soundcheck in his street clothes during the fading Texas sunlight, but no one filmed the full blown show later that night? Okee Dokey then...
Bitch, PLEASE!
Like Mulder, I want to believe.
Perhaps all these fleeting moments are all we truly have of Randy, but I don't think so.
If you are someone who truly loved him and this is all you have left of him after decades of giving to those who ask, then I can understand, (for example, the Happy Birthday video...stuff like this are the private feelings of close friends and family, and not meant for fans.)
If this is pro-shot, or semi-pro and you have hoarded this for an eventual payday, then I'm thankful for allowing this to surface, but at the same time, I tell you to fuck yourself, as you hung profit on the memory and legecy of a dead man, and ultimately, hurt his loved ones by depriving them of a rare memory of Randy, because you were afraid of prosecution or holding out for the highest bidder.
For those who went all Scooby & Shaggy that spent their time and effort by opening doors, looking under rocks, and by being an all out meddling pest...I owe you my thanks for perservering and causing this stuff to surface, whether we call you Peter Margolis, Wareagle or Joe Blow from motherfuckin' Idaho...if you had reason for rare footage of Rhoads to rise to the fore to cause release for public view, then the community as a whole owes you beyond their thanks.
At first I wondered why the Osbournes would yank footage of Randy that had existed for years on youtube. But for awhile, that was the definitive document that existed...sure, there were homemade comps that a fan could get through trade, or download, or yt.
Maybe the Os yanked it ,as what they have will be the definitive doc of Rhoads vid. Maybe it will make After Hours look like a handshake, maybe it will be comparable.....
In my heart of hearts, I believe more footage does indeed exist. Especially now. What it is remains to be seen, but I'm pretty darn sure it's something the fans have yet to see.
