Whoever painted it though did a good job making it looked aged
it could be the distance of the camera and a different light
that hides the paint crackles. i really doubt anyone would have
it repainted.

I could have sworn that Randy's name was on the pick guard of the LP?? I don't see it in these photos.

It's there.

On the one photo the pickguard is barely visible, on the next, the angle makes it difficult to see. The one with Randy's mom holding the guitar is a scan from a magazine and it's there but hard to see. And, finally, the Epi is an Epi and not Randy's :D

I took the large pic of the PDV at the Rock Hall, and examined every inch closely.. It's NOT repainted. The lines are visible just as shown in the Japanese Doc but the reason they were very noticble on the Doc was becasue they filmed it with the light reflecting the shine. Straight on looking at it you cannot see them too much but if you catch the reflection you will see the cracks. I will tell you that there was a piece of electrical tape Randy placed between some of the polka dots to the bottom of the strings where a pickguard would be located on a les paul area . I am guessing there was a bad chip there. Also on the bottom back of the neck around the 4th fret there is a noticble wood crack though one of the half polka dots at the edge.. It may have been where Randy dropped it and Carl repaired.. Though it would have bothered me if I played it and ran my hand over it becasue the wood was exposed..
