Sorry to kinda highjack the thread a little, but TAB I have few questions as they relate top Peter "finding" this footage that the brothers have.
1. Did they come to Peter and say we have footage? Or was Peter led to them?
2. Do you know if Peter made them an offer $$$?
3. It is obvious that they have held on to this gem for over 25 years. Are they planning on letting the footage out? Maybe to Ozzy's camp?
I still cant see how the Osbournes would let out all of the good RR footage without having some part/say/$$$ in it. That is why the supposed Blizzard footage seems fishy as a release from Peter and not Ozzy's camp. Ozzy would stand to join in on the profits (sounds yucky to be profiting now but it is reality, especially with Sharon running things) if he just released this live stuff around the time of the docu's release.
Is the Blizzard footage part of an agreement between the Rhoads family and the Ozzy camp.

This is all a very tough nut, as most don't know what really exists for footage. One would think now would be an opportune time to unload rare footage that some may be sitting on.
Sounds strange, but even though something like supposed concert footage may seem priceless, it actually becomes worthless to those who may have it.
Why? Well, you really can't do anything with it other than show it to buddies on a Friday night. It obviously can't be sold, as it wasn't procured legally, or those in possession are asking too much.
Another thing that I wonder about is not only footage but royalties and promo videos.
Ozzy really doesn't have an official collection of promo (MTV) videos, though he's been making them since BATM.
My theory is, there are just too many people the Osbournes owe royalties to.
Considering what was done to BOO and DOAM, as well as the legal situation between Bob, Lee and the Osbournes, how could a pro-shot BOO show be released without royalties being paid to Bob and Lee for their performance? As I understand it, since the last court case involving the above, Daisley and Kerslake may not legally persue a case concerning royalties against the Osbournes ever again.
Other than VHS in the 80's, Ozzy has never officially released the following to DVD:
The Speak/Diary show with Brad that aired on MTV, Halloween '82
The BATM show w/ Jake from Salt Lake that aired on MTV
The Ultimate Ozzy show, Ulitmate Sin tour w/ Jake
Wicked Videos, NRFTW promos + Tribute video.
I do wonder why that is? They have released Don't Blame Me and Live and Loud to DVD, so it can't have to do with songs composed by Daisley/Kerslake/Rhoads.
So if we cannot go to a store and buy any Ozzy from the 80's on DVD that was professionally done, I don't really see how bootlegs could see the light of day.
Remastered After Hours with the film would suffice for me. I think if anything else exists, It would be quite a ways down the road before it was made ready for mass consumption.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love me some footage of the Rhoads era, I just don't want to have my heart set on it, as I think continents will have to shift for any of it to see the light of day.

This film's market is the couple thousand fans who already know and love Randy Rhoads. All of you delusional folks who think a documentary is going to bring him into the spotlight are sadly mistaken. Anyone who has never heard of Randy Rhoads will still have never heard of Randy Rhoads after this film is released. Peter claimed that this was 'not about the money' anyway. This film, originally, was intended to be a document for people to learn about Randy if the are so inclined. That is what a documentary is supposed to be. A way to document a subject on film. Documentaries rarely make money, nor do they make anyone famous - Winnebago Man? Never Heard of it until you mentioned it here. Harry Potter? That's a name I've heard, because it is a different type of film, designed to make money.MrCrowley wrote:I want to stress that this film's market will be people who have never heard of Randy Rhoads, otherwise this flm would be targetting several hundred people if it were made for us. There's no money in that.
This talk about how 'successful' a documentary about Anvil was? Is that why I heard about it on CNN when Larry King interviewed the band? No, I heard about it online at a message board for a metal guitarist supported by metal guitar fans. It's a pretty small market, people. The Anvil doc may have been good, but it surely didn't raise their stature in the non-metalhead world.

That's a very good point about the Anvil doc, Paul.
I have always been under the impression that the doc was supposed to be family and friends speaking their feelings on the life of a son, brother, lover, colleague and friend.
That it would be people we haven't heard from, or stories we haven't read in rock/guitar magazines. That is what I'd like. Something enlightnening and fresh, as opposed to the same old same from the past quarter-century.

Anyone can analyze Randy's playing style/technique/songwriting. That's been done to death. Actually watching him play those songs? Yeah, that'd be cool. But getting to know the person, that's what I'm interested in.
A couple years ago KISS decided to release DVDs of their concerts from the 70's, 80's and 90's... I was really excited about the first KISSOLOGY set. I watched the whole thing...once. After watching it all the way through, I might watch a song or two once or twice a year, but that's it. I watched the Unmasked era concert from KISSOLOGY 2, and I bought the 3rd one but found the rehashing of the 'reunion tour' to be boring.
My point is that even if a pro-quality DVD of Randy surfaces, I'll probably only watch it once. I'm not the kind of guy to sit and study Randy's moves and how he holds the guitar or pick. I love his music, but I don't want to be his clone. I know some people can't wait to study that stuff - more power to them - but I don't think the majority will do that.
If the Osbournes truly have 'tons of stuff', at what point will it get boring? When I wished for the KISS footage, it was exciting, after I had it, it was, "Cool, whatever."
Point taken about Anvil. The point would be that it only opens more doors within the genre of metal lovers.
This RR doc isnt gonna make housewives suddenly recognize Randy's brilliance and kind nature. It will however be something that I will most certainly have all of my guitar students watch. It will be required viewing for anyone who chooses to play rock guitar.
After all this, I still cant figure out WHY the live Blizzard footage has to be released with the documentary. Is it a bargaining chip by Peter to try to sell more copies of the dvd? If there is Blizzard footage, release it now as a stand alone product. Let the doc stand on its own as a separate work of art.
If this footage came out in time for xmas, it would be in the stocking of many guitar players this year. However, for it to sell well, it would need to have the Ozzy production machine behind it to give it a needed advertising push.
I think a Randy version of the "Guitar Hero" game would reach more people, but part of me feels odd like it would be "cashing in."
I would love to hear a review of the Blizzard footage.

Good points again concerning Kissology, Paul. After you see something a few times, it begins to lose it's luster.
I'd sure like to see a live show with Bob and Lee, as I'm intrigued by the chemistry the original band had, and I'd like to see Randy in front of the gothic castle set. The Brad footage was cool, but somewhat bittersweet, as the gang is all there, save one.
The doc is key as I feel a large majority of it will be completely new to most.
Word of mouth can be quite the phenomenon as well...how many of us will want friends or family of ours to sit and watch this with us...not only to hear a story told of someone we greatly admire, but to help those who don't know, understand just what the big deal is anyway with this guy.
For myself, there are very few folks in the real world who I can have a conversation with concerning Randy. Most say 'Oh wow...yeah...really, that's cool....' then their eyes glaze over and the conversation sinks like a stone into a pond.
I'm reminded of a quote from Dana Strum in the trailer:
"I can't believe no one gets this!"

well heres the difference between kissology and randy footage.
kiss have released Tons of footage so obviosly it gets old.
we have days of footage from kiss.
we only have maybe an hour of ozzy/randy footage and its shit quality.
seeing ozzy/randy footage is a different story compared to kiss fottage.

Most of the Kiss footage hadn't been seen before Gene decided to put it out...same goes for the awesome job Jimmy Page did on the 2 disc Zep DVD he put out earlier in the decade...aside from the Song Remains the Same footage, none of that had ever been seen, and sat for 25 years unknown. Same with Kiss...we don't want for something we don't know exists.
It was fantastic when I first got it...but it turns into a bi-annual watch after awhile. Still glad to have it as part of my library, though.
For me anyway.

Yes, I understand that completely, Demon. I was around your age when we lost Randy.
Back then, if we wanted anything related to the man, we had to wait for the new issue of whatever magazine to hit the stands.
There was no footage, no youtube, no forums. It took five years after losing Randy for him to show up on MTV in the live Crazy Train vid...and when that sucker hit, you would have thought it was Christmas!

Yeah Tito! Circus & Hit Parader, GFTPM...the waiting was the hardest for sure!
Funny, you'd think after 30+ years of listening to the devil's music, he would've popped in to have a chat by now.
Snobby bastard
