Ozzy says all kinds of stuff, it's not all accurate. If the Blizzard was a band and they were all happy, Tommy never would have gotten the gig. Tommy was hired because Ozzy/Sharon had a falling out with Lee. If it were a band, the drummer wouldn't want a per deim because they'd all be getting paid equally. When it became obvious that it wasn't a band but rather a solo artist with hired guns, Bob and Lee asked for daily pay. It makes sense.

Ozzy is British and Bob and Lee came from British bands. Tommy is from Mississippi and played with Black Oak Arkansas and Pat Travers - neither of which were British bands and neither of which were similar to Sabbath in any way. Ozzy wanted to start a band in the vein of Sabbath with a Van Halen spark. Hence recruiting Bob and Lee from similar British bands and Randy from Ed's backyard. Logically the stories Ozzy tells don't make sense.

Bob also played with Tommy in Ozzy's band on the Bark at the Moon tour, so I'm sure he was fine with Tommy as a drummer. At that point it was clear that everyone was a hired gun. Tommy also never played in the Studio with Ozzy, so if Ozzy wanted him so bad, why not have a studio record with him on drums?

When I was a kid I got a M.S.A. in a music store that was a florescent orange but not on a cardboard backing. Was that more valuable or just crap?

I just ran across this... I bought one and the person I bought it from says they have more of course. They said they were obtained from the private collection of Alan Pepper - founder of the historical "Bottom Line" in NYC. They also mentioned Rodney Binghimer. When I got the poster it looked brand new like it was just printed. The ink bleeds through the paper. See pic...

I have a Vancouver '81 I hope is real. It's a glossy job if I remember. I have a German Diary 11/5/81 (I think) with Saxon headlining - I just got it. I have a big English Diary B/W promo - 5ft. A poster for The live 3 song EP (Canadian?) with the picture of Ozzy in red from Canadian cover. A Quiet riot the Randy years promo poster.
Han the only poster that i have seen that looks like the poster you have posted up is this one i found on flickr.com Image
Image
Which is a genuine poster for the 30 April gig at the Landmark Theatre Syracuse NY. http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=Ozzy+so ... ing&m=text
The Saxon Germany poster i think i have seen this one aswell ? Is it the one with the Saxon soldier pointing his sword ?. That has been on ebay a few times so that could well be a copy. Any chance you can post the English Diary promo poster up Cheers

I think think the second show was added after the first had been booked! if this was a real poster and that was the case, it would only mention one show.

Thanks for the info. Very cool. The Poster is the guy w/sword for the German Diary tour. The per Diem was in Bob's book, I believe or maybe a gutair mag someone said, "Randy didn't know what per Diem meant." I am now listening to The King Biscuit Flower Hour. Here is the English Diary Promo poster. *Moderators/Administrators - How do I send recordings for possible upload?

That 1980 Autumn tour pin wasn't part of the official merchendise. They had a collection of 3 pins with different designs on.I'll post a pic up of them when i get some batteries for my camera. The one above was like alot of merchendise that came available after the tour. Unofficial items like t-shirts, scarves etc these were very common aswell as the bootleg items sold outside the gigs. I have a Ted Nugent 1980 UK tour badge very much the same.

I have a speak of the devil scarf and it is very excellent quality. There is a picture of Brad Gillis in the HM Photo bookgoing up a fire escape with a drink in his hand wearing that scarf. I have seen some crappy remakes. I would like to see a Blizzard '80 merchandise section along with a Blizzard U.S., Diary Europe (short) and Diary (U.S.) to know what is legit. Did they sell mirrors at the Diary (U.S.) tour? I saw them at carnivals (in 80's) but I was too young (for my parents) to go to the diary of a madman tour, although it wasn't Randy.

Han most of the items that were available for purchase as official tour merchendise during both the Blizzard & Diary USA & UK/Europe tours. I would say it was very limited merch being mainly t-shirts, jerseys, sweatshirts, scarves, button badges some were cast metal badges. Posters i'm not too sure about. I know the Hammersmith Odeon London UK. They use to sell the advertising billboard type posters for the shows there. Plus the tour programmes which seem to be very common. I don't think mirrors were on the list until after the tours. Too risky for being broke etc during the concert. Most of the items turn up on ebay. But you have to watch out for copies of tour shirts and modern items being described as vintage tour merchendise. Your idea sounds good to make a thread on all the different items that were available.I have a few different things that i could post up.

I'm not sure if that Diary UK poster you showed us is original. I've got one similar but its in colour. I know this is 100% as i got this from a record store advertising display back in 1981.
