We can also go beyond that, why should there be a purpose....?
I agree. I think emotions are reactionary. they are an effect not a cause. So God couldn't of woken up one day and said, you know what? I think today i'll create and entire universe and put some of these things I'll call humans and I'll give them some information sporadicaly and I'll do it because I love them.
this sounds to me too easy of an answer for a seriously complex question. While i have no doubt that a creator loves us, I want to know why and to what end?
here we can get into some seriously deep philosophical discussion. So if people want do go even deeper let me know otherwise I'll save my typing hand.
What I have copied and pasted is from Neale Donald Walshe's book Conversations with God.
Walshe one day scribbled down a very angry and bitter letter to God. He was surprised that he wrote answers.
You don't have to literally believe it is God that communicated with him but just read with an open mind
From from "Conversations with God"
by Neale Donald Walsch
“I talk to everyone. All the time. The question is not to whom do I talk, but who listens? ...
Words are merely utterances: noises that stand for feelings, thoughts, and experience. They are symbols. Signs. Insignias. They are not Truth. They are not the real thing.
In fact, you place so little value on experience that when what your experience of God differs from what you’ve heard of God, you automatically discard the experience and own the words, when it should be just the other way around.
The only way to move forward on this is to ask yourself, “What would happen if everything I thought was ‘wrong’ was actually ‘right’?”
You cannot know God until you’ve stopped telling yourself that you already know God. You cannot hear God until you stop thinking that you’ve already heard God. I cannot tell you My Truth until you stop telling Me yours.
I do not care what you do, and that is hard for you to hear. Yet do you care what your children do when you send them out to play? Is it a matter of consequence to you whether they play tag, or hide and seek, or pretend? No, it is not, because you know they are perfectly safe. You have placed them in an environment which you consider friendly and very okay.
And the reason is found in the first lie—the lie which you hold as the truth about God—that God cannot be trusted; that God’s love cannot be depended upon; that God’s acceptance of you is conditional; that the ultimate outcome is thus in doubt. For if you cannot depend on God’s love to always be there, on whose love can you depend? If God retreats and withdraws when you do not perform properly, will not mere mortals also?
The deepest secret is that life is not a process of discovery, but a process of creation. You are not discovering yourself, but creating yourself anew. Seek, therefore, not to find out Who You Are, seek to determine Who You Want to Be.
Life (as you call it) is an opportunity for you to know experientially what you already know conceptually. You need learn nothing to do this. You need merely remember what you already know, and act on it.
Your job on Earth, therefore, is not to learn (because you already know), but to remember Who You Are. And to remember who everyone else is.
Judge not, then, the karmic path walked by another. Envy not success, nor pity failure, for you know not what is success or failure in the soul’s reckoning.
The way to reduce the pain which you associate with earthly experiences and events—both yours and those of others—is to change the way you behold them."

It is only too general and too convenient if you don't want to accept it. For me, it is enough. God wanted to create us, so He did. Why must there be a purpose?

God created you out of love, he loves you and wants to see you excel and thus grants you knowledge in His time.
Have you ever seen a small bird looking for food? Did you ever give the bird food or wish you could show the bird where to find food? What importance is a bird in your life, yet you can show concern for it? Do you see where I'm going with this?
Perfect explanation. I agree with all the stuff Paul is saying.

So do I. I just think thatGod went through an awful lot of work "just because". I would like to be able to fathom God's reasoning. How horrible would the world be if all the potential Doctors said "well people get sick just because they do, and that's the way it is".
I believe we are here for devine purpose and I would like to know what that purpose is. That search is finding God, not just sitting back and saying he loves me because he just does. that's not active Christianitythat's laziness. (no offense Paul).
Faith is believing in what you cannot see. The reward for this faith is seeing what you believe.

I was speaking to my mom about the meaning of humans being created, etc, cause I wanted to Buddhist angle on these matters. Her answer was "That is not the correct question to be asked." Thanks, Mom! I suppose Buddhism is not so metaphysical. Apparently where humans came from/how humans evolved is irrelevant to them as well as Paul. I suppose I am on that side as well, but more out of exasperation of knowing that we'll never...you know, know.
Christian Laziness? I don't need to search for God, because I have already found Him.Our divine purpose is to glorify God and thank Him every day because He gave us life.
A doctor should be searching for a cure to his patient's illness, not searching for God. The doctor should be praying, "God, you gave us life, and here I have a patient who is in need of my help. Please guide me to the answer I need to help this person."
You also have to understand that sometimes God does not give us what we ask for because it suits a higher purpose to learn the lesson we need to learn. We know what we want when we pray, God knows what we need.
In the words of Garth Brooks:
"Remember when you're talkin' to the man upstairs
That just because he doesn't answer doesn't mean he don't care
Some of God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers "

Faith is the reason which all things are possible. But faith is not blind nor should it be. When it's dark you fl8ick the light swith because you have faith that when you do the light will turn on. faith is experiential.
God does not deal in mysteries he deals in absolutes, what we think is mystery is just a lack of understanding on our part. just like a child the only way to learn is to question. The apostle Paul taught to question everything.
When my son approches me with a problem, i will help him. But he doesn't approach me with every problem some things he learns for himself.
Why is it so bad that I and many others desire to fathom these deep questions?

Yo Skippy,
I never said it was bad for you to fathom these deep questions! I could not care less what you fathom, be it Jesus or Tom Thumb. I simply stated my belief and that Faith is all I need! If you do not agree, thats your deal brother. I go to Church and pray. Prayer is my daily bread. If you want to question why we are here, go right ahead. Have a fucking blast!!!!! I know why I am here. I see my children, and know why I am here. I see my wife, and know why I am here. I see my sisters, and know why I am here. I see my friends, and know why I am here. I listen to music, and know why I am here. My parents, God rest their souls, raised a good Catholic boy. It is simple really.
ROCK ON!!!!

Skippy?
Who the fuck are you to start in on the attacks. I have done nothing but engage in civil conversation, and now I'm Skippy?
I go to church every sunday as well. I pray every day just like you. I have a wife and two kids which I love dearly. I work, pay taxes, and all that bull shit. So keep your pie hole closed.
Apparently you do have a problem with me asking these questions otherwise you would not be getting so defensive over it.
So I have a great idea. Don't read my fucking post if you're going to get your panties in a ruffle. My questions are not asked nor posted for the likes of you. So do us all a favor and butt out!
I have faith as well, which is WHY i ask, which is WHY I search. If that offends you in some way kiss my hairy ass.
You opposition to my remarks are heavily implied by the tone set in your posts so FUCK YOU!
