I think it sometimes takes more skill to write a melody than the initial riff. Either way I think in a band all the guys are just as essential.
I don't like trends to do with anything. I don't like the one on RR forums that has the view of Ozzy as 'being carried' in all the band line ups. In my opinion it holds no truth.
Ozzy may not understand harmony and composing, but instinctiviy he is a very gifted musician.

I think lyrics are not too important in the great scale of things. So many great bands (especially rock bands) have absolutely CRAPPY lyrics. Have you ever listened to SWLABR by Cream? WTF kinda lyrics are those? But the song is great cause of the melody. I think especially as far as Ozzy and Sabbath songs go, I didn't realize how lame/cheesy some of the lyrics were until I looked at them on paper.
No Bone Movies? Come on. Rock N Roll Doctor? You'll Never Know Why We Rock? The Wizard? Puh-leze!
But regardless of whether or not one thinks the lyrics of those early Ozzy albums are good, lyrics are not what made the albums go platinum. The guitar riffs and Ozzy biting the head off a bat did.

I am afraid my amigo being stoned/wrecked hasn't stopped any of our beloved rock stars or any artist full stop from producing material.wareagle wrote:i think he has a totlly unique voice, huge stage presence and tht makes the diff. hes most likeley to stoned to compose anything but his stage presecne and voice are great.

i remeber that song being explained in a documentary about disraeli gears. The song is about a guy who breaks up with a girl so he defaces her memory in his head, hence "but the picture wears a moustache"
She walks like a bearded rainbow, we need more songs like that, bring out the bulgarian moonshine
