I was thinking

Post by alex1251 »

and I remember reading in "Off The Rails" that Randy had finally met his dad, and im reading the charvel interview, and im thinking, how comes nobody has ever interviewed his dad? I mean, I know he was missing most of Randy's life but it would still be interesting to hear what the man had to say.
Goodbye to romance, yeah
Goodbye to friends,
Goodbye to all the Past
I guess that we'll meet
We'll meet in the end

Not really.

The only part of his life I'd have an interest in would be his relationship to Randy. Since he left when Randy was a kid, he didn't have much of a relationship.

No offense, but he had a life, just as we all do, and I'd say it should be left alone. If he wanted to talk about it, he'd have come forward.

Randy seemed like the kind of guy who didn't hold a grudge.

As for his dad, I don't want to think poorly of him in any respect for leaving. My X and I split up when my son was two. I was given all kinds of hell for "leaving" my kids at a young age.

No one has ever been told about the situation between Randy's mom and dad, so we have no way of knowing what went on there. Not to mention that divorce was not common in the '50's, so discussion of it wouldn't be common either.

In my opinion, it's a subject we can wonder about, but it's really none of our business to pursue.

I seem to recall Rudy saying that Randy would get calls from his dad every now and then and when his Dad wanted to meet him, he felt weird about it, but he met him anyway.

I always found the whole 'Randy's Dad' thing a bit weird, honestly. It honestly doesn't sound like a split or a divorce...it sounds like abandonment.

Well seeing as the Rhoads family didn't have enough money to spare to get a record player, I'd wager that Mr. Rhoads gave Mrs. Rhoads zero child support when he went to NY. Mrs. Rhoads claimed that she had to raise her children "all by [herself]". And then Randy feeling weird about his dad wanting to see him later on in life...
I don't know, it just doesn't sound like the Dad Randy got calls from a lot or Christmas cards from. Then again, what do I know. I wasn't there....I only come to these conclusions based upon what I read.

As I mentioned, divorce wasn't common then. The laws that govern divorce now are different than they were then. My grandmother was divorced, got no child support and refused to discuss the matter until the day she died.

I don't recall hearing that Randy's family "couldn't afford" a record player, I do remember hearing that thy didn't have one though. Is it possible that Randy's mom didn't want a record player in the house?

As for "feeling weird", that'd be understandable for a child who never got to know his dad. My kids see me twice a year and still spend the first day with me feeling uncomfortable, because they are not used to it.

You could be right, Nicole, but as I said, it's not our business to know, just speculate.

No, I definitely remember someone interviewing Mrs. Rhoads and they asked her about what Randy said, about not owning a record player and she promptly said that that was correct and they could not afford one.
I don't think a law should be needed for a good Dad to throw his kids some shekels after he leaves them. A good Dad would do it, regardless.

Peace people

what about Judy Randy's girlfriend? no one remembers her or says anything about that.

i find it strange when people have a high interest in Randy.

I am from NY, and i encountered Randy's other half of the family since i was 13, i have however lost touch since 1996.
