He was influenced by Randy and way back in the eighties he also said that in interviews.

the more stuff i listen to these days the more i think i hear a randy influence. I was listening to anthrax the other day and couldnt help but wonder if the lead lines were influenced by RR, they just had a similar feel about them.

i often think of randys influence being much like eric claptons. Clapton laid down much of the basic vocabulary of playing, lots of his phrasing and licks are regurgitated in different guises in the playing of so many of his contemporaries. So mch so that the origin of them can be easily forgotten. he was a major inovator at the time just like randy its like randy ended up doing something similar.

almost as though randy shifted the mindset, kinda like everyone suddenly said "why dont we all play more like this now"

None of you mentioned this, and I'm sure bottles will get thrown at me for saying it, but I think the solo for Over the Mountain, with the fast scale runs, and the end of the solo with all the noises and whatnot highly influenced Vinnie Vincent's playing. Particularly, the Vinnie Vincent Invasion song "Animal" includes a HIGHLY RR influenced solo. To boot, Vinnie started his Kiss tenure with a gold RRV later repainted pink, and then when doing his own custom V, he based it on the RRV, but extended the bottom wing a little.

Actually Jackson was designing that body for Randy when he was killed, Vinnie saw the guitar and said he would play it if they made it. Vinnie was a Randy fan, i've read interviews with him before and he mentioned him. I'll try and dig some up and post them.

scroll down till you see the part about the guitar...http://members.tripod.com/~kissfactman/vinnie.html
