Letter from Randy 6th March 1980
This is an interesting piece, a letter hand wrote to Kevin Dubrow back in 1980. This was a few weeks before they started recording the debut album. It looks like they are still in the stage of writing the album and it's not long after Lee Kerslake has joined the band. A glimpse into a day in the life of Randy Rhoads. Enjoy.

Interesting that he says the band was already called Ozzy. I thought the narrative was the band was always going to be called Blizzard of Ozz. Then after the first album was done the just started promoting them as Ozzy.

This must of been in the early stages of discussing what to call the band. Ozzy always had the name Blizzard of Ozz in mind. This was going back as far as 1978. I recently found this early promo photo which was used in press packs in July / August 1980. If you see in the tex the words Ozzy Osbourne have been cut from the photo. This makes you think that the band was never going to be just called Blizzard of Ozz. After the1980 UK tour it was back to Ozzy Osbourne.

I think Bob, Lee and Randy considered it "Blizzard Of Ozz". But Ozzy and Jet likely never did. They had to make it look like a band to get the project off the ground, likely...

I was always under the impression that the band was going to be called Blizzard of Ozz. Which I kind of always thought sounded like an Ozzy band anyway. With all the dramas that followed it just seemed quite likely that the change was made by management to favor Ozzy in the legal disputes that was obviously going to be happening.
It is crazy to think that there is only one person left standing from the band. It would be awesome to hear the tapes Bob has of them working up the songs for these albums.

Bob's Holy Grail!!! Me too!!! I would definitely like to hear them, even if the quality is shit or whatever
Jack Osbourne was of the opinion, that since Bob's tapes were recorded when the songs were writtend album recorded, that the tapes (or content of thereof) belong to record company (Jet or Sony)
Not sure how's that playing out then...

Holy shit, that is the first time that I have heard that the Osbourne's think Bob's tapes belong to the record company. I should not be surprised. I would imagine the Osbourne's would not want those tapes to come out at all. I think most people still believe Ozzy wrote all of his own material. Those tapes will most likely show that is not the case at all.
