When Van Halen rose to fame with their version of You Really Got Me, the subject of Page playing the solo on the original came up. There was a whole 'old master' versus 'new master' kind of thing, because in '78 Led Zeppelin were still the lords of the rock pantheon.
Personally, I like the original but I think VH have the definitive version.
