Well sure Matt.
Nothing beats the original but I'm amazed at the work folks do to sound like him. I've played for many years and I still stink. It's hard just to get a halfway decent sound - never mind the dexterity involved. I have to give these guys major props. I love to hear someone just about nail a Randy tune.

I suppose what I am trying to say is that all these guys who mimic Randy Rhoads so well morph into one 'Borg-like' collective consciousness to me!
Yes they do amaze me, and I am left momentarily startled, but I am left craving the real mc coy, not John Smith with his RR5 copying everything LOL

I can appreciate that Matt. I equate my love of Randy to my love of the Beatles. Now that I'm going on 30 years as a randy fan I pick up those tiny nuances - stuff you can't always put a name on but they are key elements of his sound - and this guy is one of the best. Phrasing, tone, execution are all spot on. He is not among the countless "wanna-bees" on youtube.
I don't know what his own style is like but the guy has invested seriously in getting Randy's style down. He has the same talent set as a top notch actor portraying someone on screen. That impresses me.

An interesting debate...
The actor analogy is a good one. Some actors mimic a famous character and that is their portrayal and others give a sense of the character from acting.
Anthony Hopkins portraying Nixon is a great example. Hopkins was remarkable playing Nixon, for evoking the spirit of the real man, but not just copying him to the point of impersonation.
The same way some so called artists (really just copyists) paint a picture of say a piece of scenery, and it looks just like a photograph of the scenery. They capture every nuance of the real life image, and the ordinary layman will call them a good artist, because it looks so much like what they have painted...but then it may as well be a photo!!
The plethora of RR copyists are to me like the graphic design type 'artists', to them (and many others) being good is being the same as the original, I just say being good is being original.

+1 Matt, I can respect their dedication to the meticulous details they have to learn to pull off some of Randy's stuff PERFECTLY and that kind of shit truly boggles my mind but it's also fuckin creepy man! WTF, it's like a religion or some shit.. I'm personally glad I don't like the idea of playing other people's songs professionally, sure at home or even at band practice we'll tear into a Maiden tune or an old Megadeth track but I find creating my own music to exponentially more satisfying.
Oh bring me some CHUNKY PUDDING, and bring it RIGHT NOW!!!
